China said its military chased out a U.S. naval destroyer, after the United States said it would continue to assert "navigational rights and freedoms in the Spratly Islands," where Beijing has built an airstrip and other man-made structures.
Chinese military spokesman Tian Junli said Tuesday the People's Liberation Army's southern command deployed ships and aircraft to warn and drive out the USS John S. McCain, Xinhua news agency reported.

The US holds both a qualitative and quantitative superiority over China.

If it did they would have fired on US assets long ago.
The ship was originally named for both the father and grandfather of Senator McCain. These two men had both been admirals. Then, just before Senator McCain died, the Navy re-dedicated the ship to also include the Senator as an official namesake. So the ship is now named after all three McCains.
Maybe you are right but I definitely think it depends who the American President is. Would China escalate under a Biden/Harris regime? I think we know the answer. That being said,the Chicoms play the long game and America may be blindside as America continues to rot away.
