I forgot to mention that our neighbor was counting on Y2K resulting in chaos which was why he hoarded so much ammo.
I have so many types of guns that I prefer to hoard the powder, primers, brass and lead that I need to feed my collection of little friends. When you reload your own ammo it gives a lot of extra flexibility. In a pinch you can even make your own primers, but it is a lot of trouble and they are not as predicatble or reliable as factory made.

I have a Kimber K6S on order from a small shop. Lead time is 8 to 12 weeks from an authorized dealer. If I had ordered one of their 1911s they are out over 20 weeks.
Happened to go by the local Phoenix-Glendale Cabelas yesterday on a fishing tackle run. The giant hand gun counter was 90% empty — beyond depletion seen in prior runs the last ten years. Ammo shelves did not exist but they were now so empty they were stocking other items there.
Been going in this store for nine years. Worst depletion I have seen.

Most new shooters, in fact I’ll say most shooters will just buy the gun and maybe a few hundred rounds of ammo. Shoot their new toy once or twice and lock it up forever.
How many hardcore shooters are there out there like me who plink one thousand rounds a month?
I know cops don’t even do that by a long shot.
Took me 3 months to find the Savage I wanted. Picked up a MSR10 Long Range in 308 3 months ago ... and even that was settling because what I REALLY wanted was the MSR10 Precision in 308. Still have not seen one of those yet.
Hasn’t the price of ammo gone up wildly in recent years? I would think that should more than offset the expansion of capacity in even temporary facilities.
Hardly anybody is shooting anymore in my area. Just me and some noobs taking classes.
Everybody is buying guns but there is hardly any ammo.
I keep selling old 5.56 though for 90 cents a round on gunbroker. People will pay insane prices and I’m more than happy to sell.
With all the Arse Kisser politicians in DC, aiming at the rear end of one, you probably get more than one “head shot”.

I had to pay an extra hundred over retail to get my wife a pistol. I am still waiting on the good ammo and that was ordered back in August.
What was the price on that if you don’t mind my asking.
One can only conclude that Beth Baumann is not gun literate.
Biden and harris will surely fix this and lower their taxes.
Another factor is most “hard core” shooters don’t reload ammo either.
Reloaders/Handloaders are a relatively small subset of shooters.

Reloading takes time and not a lot of people have that.
