Boris Johnson was last night urged to publish clear evidence of the Covid data he used to cancel Christmas for millions.
The Prime Minister has warned the new variant of coronavirus may be up to 70 per cent more transmissible than previous strains and could overwhelm the NHS.
But last night one scientist demanded greater transparency over the number that shut down swathes of the UK.

Now every cold will be a “new coronavirus” as that all literally are. Colds constantly mutate and change and have defied vaccines for decades.
We are headed into permanent crisis... as in for years.

The common cold is caused by a number of different viri at least be scientific about it and not spread bullsh1t. Theres over 30 now 31 different corona virus only 5 infect humans and only two are fatal. Those 3 of the 5 that cause the common cold are only 20% of cold cases anyways. They share the same spike proteins as Cars Covid I and II so the vaccines that create T and B cell immunity via the spike protein blockers will also give immunity to the other 3 common cold strains in addition to Sars I and Sars Covid II aka covid19 Pfizer is a spike protein blockers as is the recently approved Modera version. The spike protein mutation rate has been found to be virtually non-existent so the spike blocker vaccines are the best to combat an RNA virus. The spike proteins are not part of the RNA package and do not change from strain to strain otherwise they wouldn’t be able to target the ACE 2 receptors anymore there is no biological advantage to evolving away the ACE 2 target and it shows up in the genomic analyses of the various Covid virus family. Sars 1&2 are just members of a vast family of covid virus

A nitpick:
Did not Chinese researchers prior to all this discover evidence of potentially hundreds of different coronavirus viri in bats?
And a question: Is this spike blocking likely going to turn out to be useful in vaccines for any other viral diseases?
BTW, and any FReeper not familiar with what ACE 2 receptors are (I wasn’t) should read this, here is a link to a slightly dated but excellent article describing what ACE 2 receptors are, what they normally do, and what happens when COVID-19 attacks them. (Now the long term damage in multiple parts of the body and slow recoveries of many COVID-19 victims is making more sense to me. My wife and I have a friend, about 45 y/o, who is out of the hospital for a couple weeks now, but having a hard time with further recovery.)
Back in the year 1348 when Bubonic plague arrived, there were people whose livelihoods were destroyed. Those people persuaded themselves that government was lying about all of it and there was no plague.
It’s a pretty normal reaction to the destruction of everything one has worked for. People cannot believe it can just happen to them randomly.
There’s another effect as well. The world of history in academe hates historical disease. Disease destroys PhD dissertation topics. A PhD candidate can bury himself in information about this civilization or that civilization and how social influence and economics caused it to fall. You can get 30 dissertations out of a given fallen empire.
But not if disease wiped it out. You probably can’t even get one dissertation how about the fall of a civilization that fell because of a disease.
So there’s not much to talk about the destruction of historical economies by disease, and thus we don’t really believe that it’s happening now. We prefer to believe that evil people in government and society are lying about all of it.
Evidence is racist and largely driven by the Patriarchy...

No, we think that evil people in government and science are using it.
Nobody denies that it’s a disease. Everybody agrees that it is, like any cold virus, easily transmissible. Even the government has to admit that the death rate is very low and it is not a mortal threat to life in earth.
A third of Europe’s population died of the Black Plague, which, btw, is also thought to have originated in China. This is not the Black Plague.
The government is creating fear and hysteria to exert control that covers every aspect of our lives, including the air we breathe. And it’s not an innocent overreaction.
People in the government really love it, because it’s like a constant IV of their favorite drug, power.

I’ve never heard any such thing. I’d like to see your source for this. It’s difficult to persuade yourself that government is lying when your family and your friends are covered with grotesque swelling and gangrene, as men pass by with a cart outside calling “Bring out your dead.” If anything the reaction was to blame the sinful nature of man. You know, the Flagellants who marched through the streets whipping themselves as penance?
Covid-19 is a tad different than the Black Death, isn’t it? Otherwise, as one of our posters here always writes, “There must be bodies everywhere.”

For me to reach final conclusions about the virus. I know what’s going on among people I know but beyond that it’s a fog.
Within the span of one week:
- My son contracted COVID and recovered in 3 days.
- My 60yo Uncle contracted COVID and died.
Hard to get ones head around how this is possible.
