Irony is that the Covid spread NEVER decimated the enormous homeless population let alone the large swath of Southern California but Covid did ravage a few tribes in the Southwest.
Happened to drive by one of the big Indian casinos near Palm Springs a couple weeks ago, and the parking lot was absolutely packed. And I thought, “Man, good for them. They ain’t kowtowing to Gavin Newsom et al.”
One of most wrong-headed things in the world is the idea that American Indian-related sports team names are somehow racist. It’s the opposite. It’s never been about putting anyone down, but rather about aspiring to a certain American Indian ideal... brave, self-reliant and free.

FWIW besides lots of smokers and seasoned citizens, one group that seemed to dominate the Indian casino I visited —at least the table games—were, who looked to me to be Chinese.
