Attorney General Bill Barr used the force of his office to instruct prosecutors investigating Hunter Biden not to take any steps that might cause the probe to be publicly revealed in the run-up to the election.
The directive, reported in the Wall Street Journal, was in keeping with existing Justice Department policy against taking investigatory steps close to an election that might interfere with it.
Barr and his team took steps to 'insulate' the investigations, according to the report, even as President Donald Trump repeatedly demanded a probe of his political rival's son.
The revelation, coming after Trump raged publicly against Barr for not revealing the Biden probe in the first place, is likely to worsen the president's mood and fuel speculation about the attorney general being fired before Joe Biden enters office.
Those instructions were given orally in 'conversations with prosecutors,' according to the Journal, which would appear to suggest there is no paper trail for it. They included asking if staff members involved in the situation could be trusted.
The case reflects the deep pressures being navigated by the Justice Department in the wake of 2016 and Trump's unprecedented and constant calls to investigate his opponents.

Just had a very nice meeting with Attorney General Bill Barr at the White House. Our relationship has been a very good one, he has done an outstanding job! As per letter, Bill will be leaving just before Christmas to spend the holidays with his family...— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) December 14, 2020
What do we do? Roll over.
Figures
Now is this true that Barr could not have made the investigation public as he would be committing a felony?
So Barr prefers a corrupt politician be President Trump. OK
Unprecedented like conservative groups and the IRS and spying on James Rosen of FoxNews?
$400M net worth so he’ll never see time. Nor will comey etal as they laugh all the way to the rich house.
BagPipe needs to be sent to ‘Gitmo.
Just after The Fey Wray arrives.
Yes but they had this to investigate for one or two years. Why didn’t he ask them what the hell they were (not) doing all that time?
Who did he fire for hiding the laptop when it directly proved Trump was right to investigate Biden corruption and yet they kept it under wraps during the impeachment?
If this were a Dim Administration, they would have sent a 50 man armed FBI team, accompanied by CNN, to the perps house to collect the laptop, and every single scrap of evidence, rather than wait for some unknown private citizen to hand it to them. A parade of 100 witnesses would have been already trooped across the state-run propaganda media outlets.
Put a grenade in his bagpipes. I never could stand bagpipes.
See, they showed restraint in both the 2016 and 2020 elections...
They restrained themselves from investigating Hillary...
They restrained themselves from investigating Bidens...
They showed restraint in both the 2016 and 2020 elections...
I don’t know why Barr is resigning? He ought to stay on and be a very helpful stooge for the Biden administration.
It could be argued that Barr directly resulted in getting Trump defeated as a result of his inability to do his job against Hunter and Joe Biden.
They released all kinds of made up stuff.
Consider all the stuff about General Flynn, for example.
DOJ has a long-standing policy of not publicizing cases which might affect elections. The problem with that is that in withholding information they are, in-fact, influencing the election. And in this case, greasing the skids for a criminal to possibly become president.
“Trust Barr.”
mmm, hmm
All that time spent chasing and trumpeting a lie about Trump and they hide the truth about the Bidens as fast as they learn it.
Was Trump being impeached for telling Ukraine to investigate Hunter Biden at the same time Barr was keeping the DOJ investigation of Hunter Biden a secret?
