Rep. Paul Mitchell of Michigan quit the Republican Party on Monday over the GOP’s refusal to admit that President Donald Trump lost the election to President-elect Joe Biden.
Mitchell, in a scathing letter to GOP leaders, wrote that Trump’s baseless claims alleging widespread ballot fraud, and the Republican Party’s tolerance of those claims, threatened “long-term harm to our democracy.”

Btw, Trump will be inaugurated in January.
Mitchell is retiring from Congress when the current session ends early next year.

I do not recall any court case where the fraud was actually tried, especially the fraud with the voting machines. Did I miss something?

I can think of no reason that a Lame Duck anti-Trump Republican would change to be an Independent when his term ends in 21 days.

He’s retiring and the House is already in recess for the rest of the year, so all of that is moot. His replacement, Lisa McClain, won the seat by over 30 points and has supported Trump.
