Never obey the government when it is telling you to not prepare for the future. The government's first priority is making sure that the Important People are not inconvenienced by the Little People. They will lie to you, in order to make sure there are supplies for the People Who Really Count.

Never obey the government when it is telling you to not prepare for the future. This wasn't the government! - the 'don't stockpile' message came from the British retail industry, chiefly the big supermarket chains.
