Yes, our economy as we knew it, is no more. With someone like Trump it could be close, but different and even better. However, during the pandemic not all small businesses have been losers and some big businesses have been big winners.
For example, local bicycle shops, some craft brewers and gun stores have been examples of small business winners. Similarly, big box DIY stores like Home Depot have also been winners. Stores with strong internet sales capability and curbside pick up have also done well. Amazon, Walmart, Costco have all done well.
The whole “work from home” thing has dramatically changed the workplace and that change will partially stay. The concept of office buildings will have changed. So will the concept of restaurants. Finally, physically shopping at brick and mortar stores will be less of a thing although doing curbside pick up may be much more of a thing.
This is going to dramatically change the workforce. There will be a lot more people involved with delivery and internet order processing (by both big and small firms) and a lot less people employed running office buildings. With the defund the police movement there will be more people needed to install and maintain security systems and provide physical security services. Those changes will financially destroy some and offer opportunities to others.
The major downside I see is that if Biden is sworn in and the Democrats gain a hold on the Senate they will financially harm the country. However, that could lead to a flipping of the House and Senate in two to four years and with hopefully a great Republican candidate an opportunity to really get the USA economy going.
