REDWOOD CITY (CBS SF) – Longtime Bay Area software giant Oracle announced Friday that it has moved its headquarters to Texas, becoming the latest Silicon Valley firm to relocate during the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to a regulatory filing obtained by Bloomberg, the company based in Redwood City will be headquartered in Austin.
In the filing, the software company said the move “means that many of our employees can choose their office location as well as continue to work from home part time or all of the time.” Oracle said it would continue to support other office locations throughout the country, including in California.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott celebrated the move, saying in a tweet that his state “is truly the land of business, jobs and opportunity.”

“We will continue to attract the very best,” Abbott went on to say.
Oracle joins other Silicon Valley firms that have recently expanded their presence outside of the Bay Area or moved their headquarters entirely. Hewlett Packard Enterprise, once a part of the pioneering Silicon Valley firm, announced last week that it plans to move its headquarters from San Jose to a suburb of Houston in 2022. Apple, headquartered in Cupertino, is currently constructing a $1 billion campus in the Austin area. Over the summer, Palantir, a tech firm with ties to the military and intelligence agencies, moved from Palo Alto to Colorado.
Meanwhile, Elon Musk, CEO of Bay Area-based electric carmaker Tesla, confirmed this week that he has also moved to Texas, as his auto company is building a new factory in Austin.

Got everything to do with leaving a state that had State Income Tax.
Texas will soon too with these Democrat ex-pats coming to the state.
Uh, they’re relocating to Austin where “far left policies of the Dems” are firmly in place. So, what’s the change from the bay area? A push towards a blue Texas?
I’m sure Oracle has more than their share of liberal ass wipes bringing their d-bag voting habits with them.
Texas has a high property tax rate.
Austin is not a state. Its just a city in Texas. Texas does not have state income tax. There is nothing Austin can do to change that.
All these companies moving out of California is fine but any Red State they moved to the should be made to sign allegiance to the states policies, all personnel that move with them must register conservative, no voting the first couple years, no funding of any election personnel or lobbying allowed. Any violations and they must move back to California.
Property taxes in SF Bay Area are through the roof. Some of the highest in the country.
Plus you pay state income taxes in California on top of that. You don’t in Texas.
My son left Redwood City more than one year ago. It was becoming impossible to run a business in California, not to mention the expense of doing so.
The State of California is a failed government, but the presence of the technology giants, the entertainment industry, and the west coast ports bringing in goods from Asia have meant that politicians do not pay a price for their insane policies. That is ending and the drain of revenue and skilled workers will accelerate leaving California with lots of bills and a bloated, over paid government sector with enormous pension liability. Yet another example of what happens when liberals take over.
But the legislature can. Nevada has no state income tax either. But we know all to well that the current gov would love to put one in place. The democommies have a super majority in our state senate and are a seat short in the assembly. And there are enough fidiots that would vote to inact it. Like I said, after the current debacle, nothing is out of the realm of possibility.
Civilized states exist no more. It's a conspiracy. Look at Kolorado. Texas is next.
So are these billionaires moving to red states to flee blue state tyranny or to convert red states too blue states?
The most likely if not inescapable result, whether intentional or inadvertent.
You really wanna compare Texas Property tax rates to the combined California income and property and god knows what else kinda tax rates? And also, not to play dirty, but Texas even has reliable electricity and no feces in the streets.
But this is sad news for Texas.
Larry Ellison already supports Trump. He held several fund raisers for Trump this year.
Sometimes it takes a couple of years but it sure seems like the “We used to do it like this back home.” syndrome kicks in. Uh, when you left, it was no longer home. The new place is home. Don’t ‘muck’ it up. M’kay. LOL! And they will. Used to be Vegas was the major sticky point in NV. Now Washoe county (Reno) is right in there with ‘em. Mrs rktman has posited that each county in each state be given one electoral vote. Works for me. At least it would make the democommies work the rural areas harder instead of winning the suburbs with promises made, promises denied routine.
But not for long!
Texas got another hit of economic heroin and feels -so- damned good right now. But it will eventually kill the junkie.
Perry and Abbott the idiots ran all over California and New York begging communist azzwipe companies and their liberal wives to come to Texas. They are the classic capitalists selling the rope intended to hang them with.
