The FBI has reportedly issued at least one federal subpoena for records from the office of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) amid an investigation over allegations of bribery and abuse of office.
Local outlet KVUE reported on Thursday that the subpoena was issued the day prior, however it is not immediately clear what information was requested by the FBI.
The subpoena comes amid an ongoing investigation after members of Paxton's staff raised red flags about actions Paxton allegedly took to benefit Nate Paul, an Austin investor and wealthy donor.
A group of current and former Paxton aides sent a letter to the state’s office of human resources on Oct. 1, claiming to have sent information to federal law enforcement. They reported that the state official had hired an outside lawyer to investigate Paul’s assertion that the FBI improperly raided his home and offices last year.
The complaint also alleges that Paul employed a woman with whom Paxton had an affair and that Paxton had recommended for a job, according to the Austin American-Statesman.
The whistleblowers said in the lawsuit that over time, Paxton became “less rational in his decision making and more unwilling” to listen to criticism.
The full extent of Paxton’s connection with Paul is still unclear, according to a report from The Associated Press. Paul reportedly donated $25,000 to Paxton’s reelection campaign in 2018.
Paxton, however, has denied any wrongdoing and said that “after reviewing the claims made by former employees of this office, their allegations are overblown, based upon assumptions, and to a large degree misrepresent the facts.”
The attorney general made national headlines this week for filing a lawsuit in the Supreme Court against four battleground states in an effort to halt presidential electors from finalizing President-elect Joe Biden's victory over President Trump.
Note the timing of this.
The left loves their whistleblowers as long as the whistle is only blown on Republicans. Otherwise they want them thrown in jail.
John Cornyn and Jeb Bush strike back at Paxton to save George P Bush’s Texas AG run.
Its too late. Might impact him sometime in the future but as far as the lawsuit...no affect IMO.
When did the FBI get the authority to issue subpoenas?
I must have been sleeping when they changed the Constitution to mention the FBI as a part of the Judiciary.
How convenient for the FIB!
Too little too late. Other states are on board now. Off to Scotus
Texas replied to PA today at the SCOTUS.
Hmm. Interesting
I’m busy right now with this election lawsuit deal. I will be back in touch when I have some free time.
Best wishes, and say hi to Comey and Hillary for me.
Ken Paxton
Yep
George P. Bush Mulling Run for Texas Attorney General in 2022
https://thetexan.news/george-p-bush-mulling-run-for-texas-attorney-general-in-2022/
Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush may be preparing for a primary challenge against Attorney General Ken Paxton to be the state’s attorney in 2022.
First reported by the Texas Scorecard, Ash Wright, Bush’s senior political advisor, did not rule out the possibility that Bush might be looking to change offices during the next election.
“Several donors have asked Commissioner Bush to consider running for Attorney General in 2022 in light of the recent allegations about that office,” said Wright. “Commissioner Bush has always said he will ‘keep all options open’ and that remains his policy. Like many conservative leaders around the state, he is very concerned about the allegations regarding Paxton.”
Yes, Constitutional weapon must be directly over target...
The DS slimes oozes far and wide...!
I must have been sleeping when they changed the Constitution to mention the FBI as a part of the Judiciary.
That's a VERY good point! But we have to consider the source from the FAKE NEWS, THE HILL.
This was a Cornyn-Jeb hit on Paxton!
George P Bush will win Texas AG if Paxton is removed! This is a Cornyn-Bush hit!
When Paxton ran for AG I seem to remember this matter as coming from someone who was a long time political rival. It was dealt with at the time as just that.
They may as well give it up as I doubt anyone with the last name "Bush" could be elected by conservatives in Texas these days.
Besides, if Paxton's lawsuit in the SC goes well, he'll forever be a hero in Texas.
Exactly, the timing is very suspicious. Also, when is the corrupt FBI going to go after corrupt Dem AGs, there appear to be a bunch of them using their office for political prosecutions. The FBI needs to be disbanded, it is no longer an ethical or honest organization but one that is totally political.
