What’s the rush?
Florida shouldn’t worry about blowing its electoral vote deadline; Hawaii did it as recently as 1960.

What’s going on here? Are Democrats introducing resolutions which will embarrass the GOP if they don’t sign on to congratulate Joe and Kamala on their election? What’s really going on with this?

This was a stupid show vote with no basis in law.

Changing the narrative:
He said the timing of the resolution to reporters was tied to Tuesday being the so-called safe-harbor deadline for states to certify their slates of electors to the Electoral College. Hoyer said “there is no serious dispute” that Biden will be inaugurated on Jan. 20.

This was a stupid show vote with no basis in law.

It would have been used by the Media as prima facie evidence the Republican leadership had caved.

It shows a spine in the Republican leadership, at minimum.

SCOTUS has a say and any of these deadlines or dates are arbitrary at this point. SCOTUS just docketed the Texas case.

Was this the senate or the house? How did Romney vote?

It’s a six-member committee with both House and Senate members that deals with inauguration procedures. Romney isn’t a member. The Senate members are McConnell, Klobuchar and Blunt; the House members are McCarthy, Pelosi and Hoyer.
