Paris (AFP) - Last month was the hottest November on record as Europe basked in its highest Autumn temperatures in history, the European Union's satellite monitoring service said Monday.
The Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) analysis of surface and air temperatures found that November 2020 was 0.8C warmer than the 30-year average of 1981-2010 -- more than 0.1C hotter than the previous record.
"These records are consistent with the long-term warming trend of the global climate," said C3S director Carlo Buontempo.
"All policy-makers who prioritise mitigating climate risks should see these records as alarm bells and consider more seriously than ever how to best comply with the international commitments set out in the 2015 Paris Agreement".
C3S said that with just one month left to go, 2020 is on par to match 2016, the current record holder.
With just over 1C of warming so far, Earth is already dealing with the devastation caused by more frequent and stronger extreme weather events such as wildfires and tropical storms.
Satellite images analysed by C3S also showed that Arctic sea ice extent was the second lowest for November in the database, which began in 1979.
The largest negative sea ice concentration anomalies were in the Kara Sea, while there was below average cover in the eastern Canadian archipelago and Baffin Bay.

Well, we got a fair bit of snow here in my part of the Great White North back in about the middle of the month (now gone due to rain and balmy temps).
It snowed on October 30 in the Boston Suburbs. Not a warm November.
How was the crop yield this year?
uh oh climate change ping
The usual fake figures to push a false, inconsistent narrative? Yup.
What was the accuracy of the thermometers before 1850?
As the years rolled on since, the accuracy has gone up.
The article talks about .1 and .8 degrees C warmer. That’s a GLOBAL average, if that even makes sense. Obviously the tropics are warmer, and the poles are colder.
As far as science derived temperatures from prehistory—I do accept the tree ring and ice sheet core sample data—but it is not accurate beyond a few degrees, let alone .x degrees.
There are a lot of factors in taking today’s temperatures. The accuracy of the thermometers themselves, the placement:
On concrete, at the airport surrounded by acres of asphalt, or downtown in the concrete canyons; versus in a field of grass, a forest, out at sea, etc.
Another important consideration is the devotion to just the data and not any adjustments to it, as has been seen and documented in Australia.
December has been colder than I’ve seen it in many years in my part of southwest Pa. Consistently under 32 degrees and we’ve already had about 6 inches of snow. Haven’t seen that much snow here this early in many years.
Almost as if global temperature were governed by cyclic processes.
Yep.
We are told all the time here in California that our droughts are caused by “global warming” - yet when tree rings are looked at going back 1,000 years, drought is normal in California, not rainy seasons.
Droughts lasting 100 years have been found - long before humans were “polluting the atmosphere.”
Which began in 1979. Lol. That’s hilarious. No wonder people believe this nonsense. They read headline thinking back to beginning of time when the truth is 1979!!!!!
Down about 2% nationwide due to the Iowa derecho. Soybean yield was down about 3%. Not a big deal since it's still close to a record. As for November warmth, there is nothing bad about that at all. It's psychopathy to believe otherwise.
2 degrees institute?
Really?
This claim of AGW is disputed.
The baseless claim offers no specifics or examples of widespread global warming.
(How do you like them apples, libs?)
How does one figure global temperatures in the year 1150 AD?
The seasons are shifting, probably from precession. That’s my theory. Warm temps are lingering deep into the fall, and cold temps linger into the early summer.
