Founding Fathers of Silicon Valley Give Up on California, Move to Texas
PJ Media ^ | 12/06/2020 | Victoria Taft

This is becoming an all-too-familiar refrain. XYZ Company pulls up stakes in California and expands or moves to Texas or Tennessee. But even for the arrogant California commissars in Sacramento, who have seen more than 13,000 companies leave on their watch in the last few years, this one has got to hurt.

It’s got to be a public relations gut punch for California Governor Gavin Newsom, who’s done little to retain all the companies bailing out of Silicon Valley because it’s too expensive to conduct business there.

The headquarters for one of the Founding Fathers of the Silicon Valley is pulling up stakes and leaving the Golden State.

Bill Packard and Dave Hewlett’s legacy company, Hewlett-Packard, is packing up “the garage” and moving to Texas.

GOODBYE

The garage is so revered that it’s listed on the state and national registered historical places.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise, split off from the hardware portion of the company in 2015, is moving its HQ to Houston.

But HPE’s move is particularly notable because Hewlett-Packard was one of the original Silicon Valley success stories, founded by partners Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard in a garage in Palo Alto 1939. In 2015, that company split into HPE and hardware maker HP Inc., which is not moving.

But even that company is reducing its footprint in California, consolidating its Bay Area sites to San Jose.

Back in the 70s and 80s I sold both computer equipment and software and databases both as a direct sales rep as well well as a VAR {value added reseller} and probably made 10-15 trips a year with both prospects as well as customers that were looking at upgrades etc.

California was a beautiful place to visit and I took many execs to play golf at Palm Springs.

It is so sad to see what has happened to what was an American miracle, both through innovation as well as helping the disadvantaged join in the success.

I worked for many start up companies that had women, minorities, gays {of both sexes} that were very successful without "special consideration" other than a respect for their talent and work ethic.

None of the companies were wholly owned by the communist parties, unlike the "social media" companies are today.

I still have a few close friends that are living in kalifornikator, and most are heart sick over what has happened to their beautiful state.

They should switch out their employees with patriots or they’re undermining their own escape.

If they really cared they’d stay where they are fire Leftists and hire only American citizen patriots and, with the elimination of vote and election fraud, they would reap benefits in two years and the whole world would be a better place.

Bill and especially Dave spent a lot of time visiting divisions and talking to employees about their jobs, projects and ideas. There were quarterly division gatherings on a Friday pm. (beer busts) After retiring, Dave went back to check the pulse of the company and then fired John Young.

Trading 10 votes for millions in tax revenues, high spenders who create jobs, etc.?

Texas will take that trade.

Higher priced real estate, state income tax, and Democrats owning the state, all coming to your future

“Sarcasm today, but if the Dems in DC get their way, we may VERY WELL have exactly that in Texas, in the near future, although our government will have to quickly move out on it, or the Dems will simply flood us with ‘new voters’ from Amnesty.”

You’ll have to amend the Constitution first.

Musk is already doing biz in Texas (Space X) and he’s is moving there. He’s also figuring out he’s a conservative. I think he will be a great asset for Texans. I’m looking forward to his future innovations.

I lived through this in New Hampshire - all the Democrat Massholes moved up, took power and ruined the state. All the people that could get out (moi included) left.

The same thing happened in Vermont, which was one of the most conservative states in the Union--one of two that voted Republican in the 1936 presidential election. Then it was overrun by a horde moving up from Greenwich Village, so now it's our most left-wing state.

No way they will use their vast money to “Buy” Texas like they did California. California killed Hollywood (now a Branch of Asian film Companies) and Movies and TV shows are made in Red states or Canada. They will do the same with Silicon Valley. Sad really. What else can the Democrats do to kill the golden state? Leave the Union and Join Mexico? Leave the union and become a satrap of Red China? Join with Oregon and Washington to make the Republic of Pacifica? Become a Narco State where dope is our only export?

“You’ll have to amend the Constitution first.”

I suspect that we’ll have our own Constitution at that point.

Of course, that was long before working remotely was a practical thing.

Also, Dave was one of the early, prominent industrialists deeply into population control via his “philanthropy”.

I left Calif. behind when the L.A. County Sheriff’s started having food riot control practices 45 years ago.
Southern Calif has NO food grown there. No water either. All its drinking water comes from the Feather River 300 miles north. When the big one hits and shakes it to its bones distribution comes to a halt.

He pumped millions of dollars to start the children’s hospital at Stanford...His children have different points of view. Chevron named an oil tanker after him and his son-in-law uses oil money for environmental studies. Oh well.

They should move the garage too. This state no longer has any rights to be a host to history.

It is a state governed by business killing, window smashing, home invading, natural gas hating neanderthals masquerading as politicos and public officials who claim to be at the front of the movement to restore man’s dignity thru hard work and innovation.. but the fruits of their ‘labors’ say otherwise.
