This is becoming an all-too-familiar refrain. XYZ Company pulls up stakes in California and expands or moves to Texas or Tennessee. But even for the arrogant California commissars in Sacramento, who have seen more than 13,000 companies leave on their watch in the last few years, this one has got to hurt.
It’s got to be a public relations gut punch for California Governor Gavin Newsom, who’s done little to retain all the companies bailing out of Silicon Valley because it’s too expensive to conduct business there.
The headquarters for one of the Founding Fathers of the Silicon Valley is pulling up stakes and leaving the Golden State.
Bill Packard and Dave Hewlett’s legacy company, Hewlett-Packard, is packing up “the garage” and moving to Texas.
GOODBYE
The garage is so revered that it’s listed on the state and national registered historical places.
Hewlett Packard Enterprise, split off from the hardware portion of the company in 2015, is moving its HQ to Houston.
But HPE’s move is particularly notable because Hewlett-Packard was one of the original Silicon Valley success stories, founded by partners Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard in a garage in Palo Alto 1939. In 2015, that company split into HPE and hardware maker HP Inc., which is not moving.
But even that company is reducing its footprint in California, consolidating its Bay Area sites to San Jose.

Please don’t come to Texas, they will soil this great state..
“Collectivists like to assume the cloak of technology and worm their way into Chief Diversity Officer positions and media commentator “
Absolutely correct. That’s how Google went from being a pure technology company to becoming a ‘social force’. It happened under Eric Schmidt’s watch.
I love reading the comments on here, it makes me wonder, are ‘Conservatives’ just as ignorant of the Constitution as democrats?
HQ moving to Texas.
Most operations remain in CA.
The other thing to make note of is that you are getting that good number of people in places like Dallas, Houston, Austin, and other urban centres who are liberal and their grandparents or even great grandparents were Texas born and bred.
Only to vote Dem and decimate TX.
So much for managrment by wandering around.
Castro’s anyone?
“I think all these moves to red states has been planned from beginning.”
BINGO! Both California and New York purposely expelling their middle class residents to Texas and other red states. Gee, I wonder why?
I lived through this in New Hampshire - all the Democrat Massholes moved up, took power and ruined the state.
All the people that could get out (moi included) left.
I’m surprised HP is still viable after what Fiorina did to it on her ego trip.
One of my nieces, 30 years old, is leaving California for Texas. I’m unsure of her politics. Her parents are conservative and voted for Trump, but her older brother is a hardcore liberal who detests Republicans in general and Trump in particular.
Too much pooping in their own nest—on to their next latrine!
Depends on your definition of wandering.
If you’re not sure of her politics, you can probably be pretty sure of her politics.
“If you’re not sure of her politics, you can probably be pretty sure of her politics.”
Not necessarily. If anything, I’d say she is apolitical.
There goes the neighborhood. They’ll bring their shit with them!
I appreciate the concern; but note that a lot of us from the north are hard core Red Staters who leave for a Red State and that is a prime part of our decision to move. Ted Cruz cited stats from two years ago that showed he lost the election to the “native” Texans but won it based on the move-ins from around the country. Another example: North Carolina - Trump won, Tillis won, there is a new Chief Justice of the State Supreme Court, and two new R judges, bringing this leftist cabal down from 6-1 D to 4-3 D. As hard as they tried, with a horse’s ass for State AG and the constant interference of Hillary’s lawyer, the Rs had a very good year in NC and I would bet the move-ins voted in their favor.
At some point, where do we go to escape the influx? Idaho?
