An attorney for the Illinois teen accused of shooting and killing two men during a protest in Kenosha has dropped off his criminal defense team.
This week, a judge ordered Kyle Rittenhouse to stand trial.
John Pierce from Los Angeles had been representing Rittenhouse from the start. He told WISN 12 News reporter Hillary Mintz exclusively that stepping away now was all part of the plan.
Pierce said his goal was to raise enough money to get Rittenhouse out of jail and establish a Wisconsin-based criminal defense team.
Through fundraising and even some celebrity donations, they were able to post the $2 million bail.
Rittenhouse is charged with six felonies, including intentional homicide and reckless homicide. Prosecutors said he killed two men in the protests following the Jacob Blake police shooting in August.
Pierce said he's confident Rittenhouse's attorneys will prove he acted in self defense.
He said his focus now will be on continuing to raise money for legal fees on Rittenhouse's behalf and will work on the civil side of the case, which he said includes thousands of civil rights and defamation claims.
"Kyle has a constitutional right to have his lawyers be able to defend him in the court of public opinion, especially in a case like this, in which he has essentially been vilified by much of the world. I think we were very successful in the first few weeks in flipping the narrative so that most of the world now understands he is completely innocent," Pierce said.
Rittenhouse is scheduled to be back in court next month for a plea hearing. His attorney said he will plead not guilty.
Wonder what he was threatened with.
I looked up Pierce and Wood when this first happened and they were both part of a firm of several lawyers that got dissolved and not on the best of terms. All the others don’t have the best things to say about Pierce/Wood.
More than a few experienced criminal lawyers familiar with Wisconsin have said that Rittenhouse’s defense team must be led by a smart criminal defense lawyer who knows Wisconsin and their courts. High profile celebrity lawyers won’t succeed.
bttt
I hope somebody is in his corner to protect him from being railroaded.
Think I’ll send a donation.
As usual, the media makes this seem like something dire, instead of an attorney leaving the case because he's done his job.
So this looks to be a positive development.
Here we go, peruse this search regarding Pierce Bainbridge law firm https://duckduckgo.com/?q=pierce+bainbridge+law+firm
Can’t remember if Lin Wood was part of the firm but he did arrange for Pierce to “help” Kyle. I looked it up back when it all happened
Jury selection... you know there will be hacktivists in there.
I think we should spring him out.
With enough of us, it’ll be epic.
Possibly he is not eligible to practice law in Wisconsin.
I was showing my kids slides from the bi-centenntial summer (1976) in my hometown (I was 10), with all the parades, and so many dressed in Revolutionairy War outfits, or as Betsy Ross, or General Washington. All the flags displayed with such pride, such honor.
Now if you fly the Gadsden Flag you are called a racist, fascist, bigot, homophobe. Now boys like Kyle, who is a 100% patriot who would have been universally defended and heralded in 1976, is now vilified as a terrorist.
This, along with almost everything else I see in the news, and on the streets of my city, make me very sad indeed.
Weird headline, sounds like they were being taken to dinner or something dinner.
You’re not alone. We are definitely living in a tumultuous and dangerous period right now but we will endure. I refuse to let the bastards get me down.
He hasn’t left the case, only the CRIMINAL side of it. The civil side will include a shitload of libel, defamation and false reporting law suits. That’s what happened in the Wes Covington HS case and they WON BIG!
That works both ways. All it takes is one of "us" on the jury to prevent his conviction. But you are right. Jury selection is critical.
The deep state is able to select the jury pool they need because they have so much information on everybody.
How many people remember how many lawyers Zimmerman had?
I believe he went through three whole teams.
