If significant numbers of Republican voters choose to not participate in the January 5 runoff elections for both Senate seats, and that leads to victories by Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock, that will do nothing for Donald Trump, Trump’s legacy as president, the Republican Party, and the cause of conservatism.
It will, however, do a lot for Lin Wood and Sidney Powell, who would instantly become major power brokers in the Republican Party. They could take their “your vote was stolen by rigged machines” conspiracy-theory schtick to any state in the union and hold don’t-get-out-the-vote rallies for any race, telling Republicans that the elections are fixed and that participating in them is a form of acquiescence to terrible crimes. The GOP would effectively be held hostage by these lawyers, needing to concur with whatever bizarre claim they made — Georgia governor Brian Kemp stole money and gave it to China! The Federal Reserve is trying to destroy the economy on behalf of George Soros! — or suffer the consequences of Wood-Powell “Republicans must stay home and not vote” rallies in their backyard.
What we’re seeing in Georgia in these coming weeks is nothing less than a test to determine if the Republican Party has enough will to survive. If two lawyers can come out of nowhere with a farfetched conspiracy theory, and persuade thousands, or tens of thousands, or hundreds of thousands of self-identified Republican-learning voters to not make their voices heard at the ballot box, then the GOP — despite all of its gains in the state legislatures and U.S. House and Senate this year — will not really be a functioning force in American politics. Too many members of the party’s grassroots will be too gullible to be a reliable base of support, and willing to act in a way that fulfills the Democratic Party’s wildest fantasies.

“””Victor Davis Hanson still writes columns for National Review.”””
And we can hope the VDH’s columns have more impact on the 96,000 subscribers to NR than does the garbage coming from the fingers of folks like Jim Geraty.
I wasn’t sure which side to be on, but if National Review is against them, I am for them.
It’s a no-brainer.
Ha. I caught that.
Yep....not just RINOs but virulent anti-Trump!
Y’know..
Maybe...
Just Maybe...
If a political party doesn’t have enough leadership and strength to succumb to the whims of TWO people - maybe that party doesn’t deserve to survive?
We cannot fix a nation divided when our own house is divided even though they are less than 20% of the party they are still vocal and control way too many things.
Force president trump's platform for the Republican party and expulse the Neo cons by any means necessary.
It should never surprise us that the Democrat acts like a Democrat. But these traders who dwell within us are worse than the worst democrats.
They are transparently flat out liars and subversives to the Constitution: having embraced a one world order and having rejected the national supremacy of the United States of America.
They are the very definition of traitors and should be treated with all the appropriate acoutraments that go with being a traitor
Republicans need to earn our votes. Isn’t that what they should be doing? Or should we feel like we are beholden to them, instead?
I can tell you this, nothing that we can do or have done has gotten their attention like threatening to withhold our votes. Well good, I say, since they typically ignore us.
Do what WE want, if you want our votes. Or they can do what they want, and roll the dice on whether it works. It’s no different than running a business, the customer is always right, or you go out of business.
The attacks on Wood are rightfully being seen by many as attacks on our fight to restore America’s integrity, which is based on our elections, by wishy washy politicians. It’s not going to work, I don’t care who gets up there and does it, including prominent Republicans.
I know what my priorities are, and they’re based on practical value. Trump in the White House. Pence as the tiebreaker in the Senate, which secures it no matter what happens in the Senate races. And most importantly, these dirty elections cleaned up. If those priorities, which are urgent, today, get lost because they took a back seat to some secondary election that’s still a month off, my trust in the Republican plan won’t be very high. I’ll keep supporting and fighting for America, as always, but my typical full support of Republicans, could change
Just nature taking its course.
That would-be .... none.
And those they screwed into believing that if they only would get rid of President Trump, everything will be rosy again, will lament, "This is all Trump's fault as they are processed into the camps and look around at the machine guns that are covering them. Next sound you hear will be from the P.A. system calling your number and ordering you to report to the killing area.
That GOP is dead - President Trump killed it. Only these dinosaurs don't realize it yet.
As regards telling people not to vote in Georgia, by all means stop them NOW.
Otherwise, what they are doing is fine.
Gehraghty IS the swamp.
What a mess.
I'd like to make a slight modification to your statement to make it more accurate:
Far-leftist Chuck Schumer (who happily approves of and defends the Democrats' massive nationwide election fraud) must be thinking God Satan blessed the con-artist Democrats with the dumbest the most honest of enemies, the Republicans.
George Will was there right at the beginning, when working class Social Conservatives abandoned the Democrat party in the early 70’s and joined the GOP. He had contempt for those people then, and he has even more contempt for them now.
Victor Davis Hanson is a good guy, but he’s also a passive, mild mannered historian. Not a fighter like Rush or Bannon.
We need activists, not appeasers. And the only time appeasers ever take a stand, is when they condemn the activists for being “troublemakers”.
National Review. The people who said Trump supports need to die. That National Review?
The thesis is bs. If the Republicans lose either Georgia Senate seat, Lin Wood definitely and Sydney Powell to a slightly lower degree, will be blamed for destroying the country. No way would that put them in control of anything except the doghouse.
Powell is the real deal, but Lin Wood is a flake that can’t be trusted. For Republicans to boycott the election because the state parties put up crap candidates is foolish beyond expression. We never have the luxury of waiting for perfection. Our calculus always has to include blocking the horrible when “our” candidates are flawed.
Lin Wood should be exhorting conservative-leaning voters to turn out en masse both at the polls and at their local/state Republican Party HQ, and to volunteer to work the polls and be poll-watchers. The Republican Party can be made into something worth supporting, but only from the roots up. Otherwise it will remain a club for politicians and special interests (hint, Donald Trump has never been in their club). It’s in our power to make things better by just showing up.
Our perennial problem in the Republican Party are top turncoats and the Rinos. Who wants to vouch for the two Senators the Party has put up in Georgia? So now we are being blackmailed again to accept the candidates the Party has thrown our way. Nothing but another Hobsons Choice for us and we know it in advance. When we give the Party their two Senators, they will turn around and screw us at every turn. All they want are our votes. The only man I trust in the Party any longer is Trump. Worse yet, with the rigged computers left in place to produce a win for the Communist anyway, we will be blamed for the loss and the disaster that follows.
Ultimately, it helps the country. Boting sure ain’t done anything. Here we are, same boat as we been since I started voting decades ago. Time to let it all go to hell so we can get right the ship the only way it’s going to be put right. All we’re doing by voting GOP is selling our souls a little slower. That’s it. You like the sound of that because, by the time the real stuff starts, it won’t be your problem anymore.
To paraphrase a line from The Godfather...” leave the National Review, take the election “...
Who says there is even a ‘Republican Party’ anymore?
Most of them seem like they could care less, once they get elected they cease knowing you, the taxpayer, the soldier, the patriot or caring about the preservation of the Constitution and this country as a sovereign nation.
Nice try, NR.
