Racial disparities create obstacles for Covid-19 vaccine rollout

LOS ANGELES - Despite the potential for a vaccine within weeks, distrust of the medical community by Black and Latino people, who have been disproportionately affected by Covid-19, remains high as elected leaders and public health professionals work to prioritize its distribution.

Fueled by a dark history of medical experimentation and unequal access to care, people in Black and Latino communities struggling with high Covid-19 rates are among those least likely to get vaccinated, health advocates say. Overcoming systemic racism and the collective trauma associated with it will be paramount as officials rush to distribute vaccines to hard-hit communities, they warn.

"The people who need it the most are the same who don't trust it," said Sernah Essien of Universities Allied for Essential Medicines, an international advocacy group working to ensure equitable vaccine access. "Without considering racial equity, we deepen the cracks that systemic racism has already created in our health care system."

Dr. Marcella Nunez-Smith, an expert on health care inequality at Yale University, said testing and vaccine programs must consider fairness and equity along with safety to be truly effective.

“We cannot get this pandemic under control if we do not address head-on the issues of inequity in our country,” she said. “There is no other way.”

Several states say they intend to prioritize communities of color when a vaccine becomes available.

Black and Latino people, who have been disproportionately affected by Covid-19,

True, but it is because of their behavior, not societal discrimination.

Perpetual victims unable to care for themselves, something the left is all too willing to do for them.

Yes, there is, you blockhead! Ignore the "inequity" crap and just give the vaccines as planned.

Haven't Democrat operatives been telling people not to trust it?

A month ago I read a report on the corvid-19 infection rates and the black and Latino rates track the same percentage as the population. In other words the same as racial makeup. blacks were 13 percent and Latinos around 14 percent. The majority of infections were Caucasian. Are they saying minorities need/want more equal treatment first?

I’m in a midwest suburban county and the absolute Covid numbers are overwhelmingly caucasian but the rates per 100K are overwhelmingly Black and Latino. Been that way since they started reporting by ethnicity.

OK, I have heard of the Tuskegee “study” that started in the 30s that involved 600 black sharecroppers in Alabama. Certainly worthy of the adjective ‘dark’. Are there any other examples? Is there even the rumor of a similar thing happening with ‘Latino communities’?

At least one of the rushed vaccines is said to have significant side effects. Just imagine the howling when blacks and hispanics are moved to the front of the line and immediately begin to experience these side effects. Then there’s the problem of coaxing them back for the required second dose.

I’m sure, that if you ran the numbers, there would be a disparity between right-handed people and left-handed. Would there be cries of racism? Would there be politicians standing up and calling for special reparations?

Perhaps they should look at the people and ask if they are the cause of their own problems.

Black and Latino people, who have been disproportionately affected by Covid-19

Black and Latino people are disproportionately obese, which is one of the main criteria for being affected.

So here’s how it has gone thus far
*covid hits U.S.
*”Shutdown 2 weeks to flatten the curve”
*We are told “We don’t need no stinking masks! Just stay home”
*Shutdown turns into months
*Dems become DRUNK WITH POWER!!!
*”Shutdown until a vaccine is ready!” becomes the new Dem mantra.
*”Everybody wear masks!”
*Protests, fires and riots, oh my!
*Covid spiked (naturally)
*We are told “minorities and poor hardest hit by the spike due to their “lack of access to healthcare.” Never mind everyone who is suspected of covid is getting treated.
*We are told “Attending church services and Trump rallies spiked the covid!”
*A vaccine is announced
*”I don’t trust Trump’s vaccine! I don’t want it!” is the new Dem battle cry.
*Others reply “OK. I will take it.”
*When it becomes obvious enough people are willing to actually take it, then we are told by Camel Harris “Minorities should have first access to it as they have been hit hardest.” WTF?!
*Cuomo says he doesn’t trust it for New Yorkers. Trump says that’s very sad for New Yorkers but OK, they can go without it until Cuomo allows them to have it.
*Cuomo gets pissed and decides New Yorkers need it after all. Tries to blame Trump for “playing politics over the vaccine!” Again, WTF?!
*Dems don’t want anyone receiving the vaccine and decide they want more time to “study it and mull it over to decide who gets it first.” Slow roll this baby so that maximum deaths occur under Trump and Biden brings the end of the plague, much like Obama made the oceans recede.

Men are also disproportionately affected by Covid-19, yet we don’t hear anything about that.

“Unequal access to care”???? I beg to differ. This is being distributed free of charge and all they have to do is show up. It’s not going to be rolled out based on color or ethnicity. I am so tired of this BS.
