Jessica Lusk and Dylan Garcia are under what they call "unbearable stress."
Every second they worry that in trying to keep their youngest child safe from the pandemic, they might lose their home and hurt their other children. And it still might not be enough.
.............
Jessica Lusk and Dylan Garcia stand with their children Brandi, Isabella and Elijah. Brandi has a condition that could make any infection fatal.
Fear is nothing new for the young couple, as Brandi has an extremely rare metabolic disorder that requires round-the-clock care and makes her vulnerable to any kind of virus.
.............
But the pandemic has made it even harder to keep her alive. Garcia and Lusk left their jobs in April to stay home to care for their children and reduce the chance of coronavirus getting into their home.
They're now thousands of dollars in debt and face eviction at the end of the month.
Brandi's parents are like so many people with a vulnerable family member who have made huge sacrifices to protect them for months and months -- and who are looking at many weeks more as Covid-19 continues to spread.

Key passages:
"Fear is nothing new for the young couple, as Brandi has an extremely rare metabolic disorder that requires round-the-clock care and makes her vulnerable to any kind of virus."
"Any acute illness could be deadly for her."
Yet CNN proclaims:
"Covid is so contagious and so widespread, that is at the top of our list of things that she could easily contract," said Umana, who is Brandi's doctor. "For other ones, I mean, she gets vaccines right now. We don't have a vaccine for the coronavirus yet -- at least available."
Will the vaccines suddenly be put on hold/withdrawn for public health reasons to favor this new 'war'? I believe that it's a valid question, irrespective the obvious dichotomy of this narrative re SARS-CoV-2 resulting in A FRACTION of the mortality rate for the very young than influenza:

Mask up, it’s flu season.
The child’s condition sounds so severe that a regular seasonal cold or flu would set her off, so this isn’t really a COVID story.
Maybe the people over at CNN should do something about it.
Trump used to help lots of people out upon hearing stories like this.
The article mentions unemployment and Medicaid, but I see no mention of charity assistance, a GoFundMe, etc. I find that a little odd given the extreme nature of the child’s situation and the stated concern of eviction.
why is it that when i grew up in the 50’s, 60’s, almost no one had a “extremely rare metabolic disorder....blablabla”
My point is you cannot throw a rock without hitting a kid that is suffering from some disease no one has ever had before.
What the hell happened to our kiddos?
especially a GoFundMe- that’s a go to now, put your hand in someone else’s pocket.
Why the barf alert? These are hard decisions many families with immuno-compromised children are facing.
The infant mortality rate was 5 times higher in 1950 than it is today. Some of the kids living with conditions today would have just died quickly in the 50s or 60s.
If you search you can find their GoFundMe page.
It’s got about 70 grand pledged at the moment.
Dr. Sivana is right about infant mortality — way down in much of the world. The willingness to discuss such things, however, at least here in the U.S., is way up. I remember when miscarriages, though fairly common, weren’t mentioned except in roundabout ways. Many moons ago my mom confessed that she’d miscarried once before I was born. You’d’ve thought she was confessing to some shameful crime or dark family secret. Anyway . . . The reason childhood illnesses, e.g., Type II diabetes, autism spectrum diagnoses, odd autoimmune disorders, have exploded has entirely to do with nutrition, hygiene habits and — yes — the explosion in mandated childhood vaccination.
It makes me wonder whether there is more to the story or if CNN is intentionally omitting something to make the story sound sadder. It’s hard to imagine that a family in their situation couldn’t find enough help through local churches, medical-related charities, GoFundMe, etc. to keep them off the streets.
Interestingly, all other news reports are sourced back to the CNN report. Very few details available about the couple.
Good on you for doing the search. Interesting that CNN doesn’t mention that at all...
There must be bodies everywhere.
Until recently, the World Health Organization (WHO) estimated the annual mortality burden of influenza to be 250 000 to 500 000 all-cause deaths globally; however, a 2017 study indicated a substantially higher mortality burden, at 290 000-650 000 influenza-associated deaths from respiratory causes alone, and a 2019 study estimated 99 000-200 000 deaths from lower respiratory tract infections directly caused by influenza. Here we revisit global and regional estimates of influenza mortality burden and explore mortality trends over time and geography. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6815659/?fbclid=IwAR31LEdR4UFGXi1GW_N9qUUK6luWnXRWpQZV7CtmKAMeOt7h-kdRKFXlVRs
