The Republican leaders of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives announced late Saturday that they will not be returning to session this year, a move that would appear to preclude any possibility of lawmakers interceding in the 2020 election.
House Speaker Bryan Cutler, R-Quarryville, and Majority Leader Kerry Benninghoff, R-Bellefonte, released a joint statement saying that they would not be calling their chamber to Harrisburg on Monday, the final possible day for the 2019-20 session of the Legislature to meet.
“We are physically unable to consider any new legislation before the end of session,” they wrote in the statement. “A simple resolution takes three legislative days for consideration and a concurrent resolution takes five legislative days to move through both chambers, which means we do not have the time needed to address any new resolutions in our current session.”
Article III, Section 4 of the state constitution requires that bills be considered on three different days by each chamber. A simple resolution originates from a single chamber, while a concurrent resolution must move through both.
After Monday, there can be no further meetings of the Legislature this year. Article II, Section 4, decrees that the 2021-22 session of the Legislature will begin on the first Tuesday of January, which will be Jan. 5, 2021.
Given that the House won’t meet before the Electoral College gathers to pick the next president Dec. 14, President Donald Trump’s hopes that state lawmakers in Pennsylvania would step in and choose electors appear to be dashed.
Trump and his allies have alleged that presumed President-elect Joe Biden’s victory in the Nov. 3 election was the result of widespread fraud, including in Pennsylvania. He tweeted that Republican-controlled legislatures in the states where he disputed the results should hold votes to pick a new slate of electors.

Thatnks for the update
He is not reelected, he is chosen by the House of Representatives. This is important since the 22nd Amendment uses the word elected when prohibiting someone from being elected to the presidency more than twice, or filling more than 2 years of a term in which someone else has been elected, as well as one term to which he has been elected. Since someone was chosen and not elected, it may open up a possibility of President Trump having 3 terms, with the coming term being the chosen term, and a kind of "make-up" term for the first which was ruined by the constant investigations.
I’m done with the Republican Party and don’t try lecturing me. I’ve given probably 150,000 in my lifetime
This needs to hit rock bottom
We need a new avenue and yes it will be painful
When men like me are done....we’re done
Political parties

Business deals
Done is done
You’re mistaken...
Thanks.
Excellent info!
The Keystone KKKops.
Those Pennsylvania legislators are just going to love that fracking ban that they now made happen.
Of course, they might be thinking that the new federal masters might spare them in their pogroms if they cooperate now on behalf of their new rulers. I think they might have a few “oh sh*t” moments just ahead.
Nothing in 27 says that they will do anything. Seriously, they are simply talking and will pick up that discussion in the next session. If you see otherwise, please share explicit quote to back up your claim that they are going to act as they’ve rather clearly said what they are going to to do and it does not include acting.
My pleasure. I hate misleading articles.
My pleasure. I hate misleading articles.
Nothing in 27 says they won't do anything like the article suggests.
Read the rest. They will resume talk next session and it will be focused on future elections. What are you having trouble with on this point? Again, if you see pending action now (and note it is 12/1) that might affect electors this month, please do share as what you are pointing to definitely does not say t his.
With as faithless as a good portion of elected GOP reps have been, it is easily believable.
#3. More GOP cowards than we ever thought. Time to start electing fighters, not flee-ers.
Utter cowards!
I hope that PA voters remember.
Supremacy Clause - the legislature’s duty under the US Constitution overrides state law.
That would be delicious!
This may disinformation.
I’m curious. Where in the US Constitution does it direct that a State legislature may convene “whenever they want”?
Where in the US Constitution does it allow for a State legislature to convene after their terms expire?
