CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts: Moderna said it will apply for US and European emergency authorisation of its COVID-19 vaccine on Monday (Nov 30) based on full results from a late-stage study showing its vaccine was 94.1 per cent effective with no serious safety concerns.
It also reported a 100 per cent success rate in preventing severe cases. The filing sets Moderna's product up to be the second vaccine likely to receive US emergency use authorisation this year.
"We believe that we have a vaccine that is very highly efficacious. We now have the data to prove it," Moderna Chief Medical Officer Dr Tal Zaks said in a telephone interview. "We expect to be playing a major part in turning around this pandemic."
Zaks said he was emotional after seeing the 94.1 per cent result over the weekend: "It was the first time I allowed myself to cry. At this level of effectiveness, when you just do the math of what it means for the pandemic that's raging around us, it's just overwhelming."
Moderna's announcement follows news from Pfizer and German partner BioNTech that their vaccine, which also uses a new technology called synthetic messenger RNA (mRNA), was 95 per cent effective. Pfizer has applied for emergency use authorisation, putting it about a week ahead of Moderna.
In addition to filing its US application, Moderna said it would apply for conditional approval from the European Medicines Agency, which has already begun a rolling review of data, and would continue to talk with other regulators conducting rolling reviews.
Moderna's latest efficacy result is slightly lower than an interim analysis released on Nov 16 of 94.5 per cent effectiveness, a difference that Zaks said is not statistically significant.

I have not been following the covid vaccine news due to too much time spent on 2020 election stuff.
One question I do have is this:
When these vaccine manufacturers tested the vaccine on people, who were tested?
We know the above age 65 group is most vulnerable to bad outcomes from covid.
Well, did they test their vaccine on the above age 65 group who accounts for 75% or more of the covid deaths?
Or did they test the vaccine on 20 year olds who usually have no or mild symptoms if they get covid?

There has been massive media attention on Covid-19 deaths – and there have been a lot of them. The CDC as of noon on 26 November 2020 was reporting that there have been 259,005 total Covid-19 deaths in the United States.
Yet anyone who reads widely is aware that there have been reports of a motorcycle accident victim being reported as a Covid death. There are many who correctly report that all people dying from or with Covid and even suspected of dying from-or-with Covid-19 are all being counted as certified reportable must-make-the-headlines Covid-19 Deaths.
[Note: This is a long and rather detailed explanation of what leads to the situation in which we find ourselves regarding Covid-19 Deaths reporting. Those who want a better understanding of the issue should continue reading. Readers with no or little interest can just accept this brief synopsis: “It’s Complicated” and move on to other posts. ]
Various experts, journalists, bloggers, and pundits tells us that “Covid Deaths” are being over-counted, mis-counted and even under-counted. Other pundits and media-reported experts desperately try to reassure us that Covid Death counts are correct and real – and that we should all stay concerned and follow all government mandates – which vary from “reasonable” to “obviously based on magical thinking” (closing bars and restaurants at 10 PM because that’s when the Corona Virus Zombies attack) — all this despite various governments having different and contradictory mandates (or even an absence of mandates) and the various States in the United States following differing rules and policies on Covid Deaths reporting. Those reporting “facts” like “US Covid-19 Deaths overestimated by 17 times” (based on this CDC comorbitity data) are sadly mistaken and misinform the general public, just adding to the general confusion on the subject.

94% sounds awfully good - but since there are multiple, different, vaccines, might it be better to take two if they are available?That way we could have 188% effectiveness . . .😆
I won’t be taking Moderna’s mRNA vaccine.
The subjects recruited particularly emphasized older people, people with comorbidities ( diabetes etc.) and ethnic groups who statistically have worse outcomes. (See link below).
Didn’t see where it defined the composition of the test group - but the headline claim of that report is that nobody who took the vaccine got serious symptoms. So in that sense it’s really 94% ++ effective.. . . here’s really the kicker - the 94.1% number comes by dividing 100% times the number of (mild) Covid cases in the vaccinated group by the number of cases (some severe) in the control group. And subtracting from 100%.
We’re talking 11 cases divided by 185 cases. But the trial involved 30,000 participants. So say that 15000 were vaccinated, and 11 mild cases were experienced among them. So the actual danger of a vaccinated person getting even a mild case wasn’t 6%, it was only 11(times 100%) divided by 15000.
So, realistically, after vaccination your chance of getting even a mild case won’t even be 0.08%. Improbable as it presumptively is, nobody can say that a serious case wouldn’t have turned up on the 15001th dose - but even assuming that, your risk of a serious case wouldn’t be .008%.
Nobody who gets that vaccine should allow himself to be snowed by people pushing masks. Admittedly, the risk of getting the disease during the time of the test is limited to the time interval of the test, only a matter of some weeks. OTOH the risk of getting the disease at all is limited by herd immunity, which could also be considered a matter of weeks in even a partially a vaccinated population.
I won’t be taking Moderna’s mRNA vaccine.

The Moderna vaccine has absolutely ZERO to do with DNA. You misunderstand the messenger RNA vaccines. The mRNA in the vaccines NEVER enters the nucleus of the cell and does not interact with the DNA. The mRNA in the vaccines goes to the ribosomes (the cells’ protein manufacturing machinery [isn’t God’s creation wonderful?]) in the cells’ cytoplasm. The protein that the mRNA instructs the ribosomes to produce in turn cause the immune system to produce the COVID-19 antibodies.

Do you know what an mRNA “vaccine” is? None have ever been approved anywhere in the world. It’s not even a vaccine, in the traditional definition of vaccine.

That information is in today’s news about the Moderna vaccine trial. Of the 15,000 in the trial who received the vaccine there were ZERO (that’s 0.00%) serious or critical cases. There were, however, serious/critical cases (I don’t remember the actual count) among the 15,000 in the trial who received the placebo. You can use DUCKDUCKGO.COM to search for the actual number of those serious/critical cases among the placebo leg participants.
