This is why I think it should be referred to instead as the "blessed free market system." I admit, this change in nomenclature would be an uphill battle.
In so many ways, the free market has improved our lives to such a degree that it would be completely impossible for the vast majority of humanity to imagine living like their forebears did just a hundred years ago.

Happy Thanksgiving!
I believe von Hayek referred to it as “the extended order of human cooperation.”
The greatest engine in the world does not need caretakers.
I am also grateful to God for giving mankind independent thought, and our founding fathers for the courage too have the freedom of independent thought.
There is no free market. The black market is the only free market.
Few understand that the voluntary cooperation between buyers and sellers FREE FROM GOVNEMT INTERFERENCE is the greatest producer of wealth known to man, as Adam Smith said in his book, "The Wealth of Nations".
The Free Market Economy is freedom in action. True freedom from government interference in the 1800's in America brought us the free market which by 1900 had made the America the freest, richest, and mightiest nation on earth.
There is always the fight to secure and preserve freedom just as there is the good fight of faith. Freedom requires faith. Why? Because freedom from government interference and coercion means one must trust in God not man or man's government for his life.
Cursed is the man who trusts in man And makes flesh his strength, Whose heart departs from the Lord. For he shall be like a shrub in the desert, And shall not see when good comes, But shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, In a salt land which is not inhabited.Jeremiah 17:5-8.Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, And whose hope is the Lord. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river, And will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit.

P-Marlowe is on my “No-Fly-Zone List” as a bad-faith poster who I avoid on FR, but I’ll send this reply to you regarding his somewhat nasty and ignorant reply.
There is such a thing as the free market economy just like there’s such a thing as cars with combustible engines. If people stopped driving such cars, it doesn’t mean the principles of the combustible engine has ceased to exist, just that people have stopped using those principles to their benefit.
Same with the Free Market Economy. It exists, but people are relying more on man and his government than freedom and the marketplace free from government interference. Just like the unused combustible engine that’s sitting unused in the garage, so the power and wealth of the free market economy sits unused in great measure.
Someone doesn’t understand what Christianity is all about. The free market is truly a great thing but it is hardly the greatest gift given to man by God. The greatest gift is of course His Son and His willingness to die for us that we might return to The Father that created us. Everything else pales in comparison.
Absolutely!
Everytime I go to the grocery store I marvel at the variety of bounty that is available for really a pittance when you stop and think about it. There is no way on earth I could provide myself one thousandth of that bounty if I had to do it in my own. And that applies to every other type of store.
The free market is nothing short of miraculous and I’m forever cognizant and grateful for it and never take it for granted.
And a free country
Happy Thanksgiving
Countless blessings that we just naturally take for granted. One thing my son reminds me that I taught him is that even a moderately prosperous family today lives far better than the kings of 500 years ago.
We have heating and air conditioning when needed; we have convenient daily transportation at an affordable price; as you say, we have a train load of convenient items readily available. We have education available - if we want it. Seasonal clothing is ready at hand. We have sealed houses to battle the elements. Most of us have police and fire protection. We have telephones - and the web - to keep in touch with friends and relatives near and far. A vast amount of news is at hand and fair warning of extreme weather and other natural disasters. We can go to the store and buy medicines that royalty would have paid a pretty price for in their day - were they available.
Anyone can add to this list to what would have been marvels centuries ago. People say they cannot think of things to be thankful for... give them some cappuccino coffee to help stimulate their hearts to see what is around them.
And all of this comes to us continuously via the free market system. Not so in Honduras or Cuba or Zimbabwe. We are truly blessed!
An attitude of gratitude is a great blessing in itself.
Amen, lj! Happy Thanksgiving.
