What I think is BS is that SCOTUS did not quote the relevant 1st Amendment portion: ““Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; “

WTF part of “prohibiting the free exercise thereof” do they not understand? It is disconcerting that they seem to argue Church attendance could be limited in NY as long as everything is limited.

Note it says it was a key victory for them. And didn’t he later provide the key vote to legalize homo marriage?

>Gorsuch’s separate decision while agreeing with the majority was scathing. He may be someone to watch...<

Sorry, I haven’t read it. Why do you consider it to be scathing?

Thanks a lot George.

George also nominated Alito. The Bush family must have a sense of humor because his father gave us David Souter and Clarence Thomas.

There are clueless individuals on here who have argued it doesn’t matter if the Dems stack the courts because Roberts is the CJ and controls how the court rules. As you can see reality staring you right in the face - he is only one vote. If his vote is in the minority, his view does not hold.

He also does not get to decide what cases can or cannot be heard.

Kennedy wrote some fine opinions. Roberts is like the clever kid in the kindergarten school. yard who just needs a good thrashing.

no, John Roberts did not vote to legalize homosexual marriage. He was in the minority which voted to uphold the Defense of Marriage Act.

I’m as frustrated as any about some of John Roberts’ rulings, but we do want to be factually correct, that he didn’t vote to overturn marriage laws in this country.

The 2015 Obergefell(sp?) decision was a 5 to 4 decision imposing homosexual marriage nationwide. The 5 who voted in favor were : Kagan, Sotomayor, Ginsburg, Breyer, and Anthony Kennedy. The 4 who voted to uphold traditional marriage laws, were John Roberts, Alito, Thomas, and Scalia.

Yeah, every time the MSM writes about the Court, they are pretending it’s now 6-3 conservative. HARDLY!

In 2013, Roberts wrote the 5–4 majority opinion that the appellants seeking to uphold Proposition 8 in California, which was ruled unconstitutional by lower courts, did not have standing and the lower courts' rulings were allowed to stand and same-sex marriages resumed in California.

*****

He didn't help.

This case paved the way for future cases.

The dissenting opinion is utterly nonsense. Hard to come up with an easier case to judge - the First Amendment clearly violated by NY.

There are no “exceptions” to the Bill of Rights. We are either a country that follows the Rule of Law or we are lawless.
