The Greek government officially requested an urgent purchase of Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II fifth generation aircraft for the Hellenic Air Force.
According to the Greek newspaper Proto Thema, the Director General of Armaments and Investments for the Ministry of National Defense, Theodoros Lagios, sent a formal Letter of Request (LOR) to the U.S. Department of Defense on November 6, 2020.

I’d sell to Greece.
Second hand?
Are there any old enough for that?................
Do they have the trained crews to man and service them? The budget to keep them flying?
That is always the biggest deals with small air forces.
Look at how much Soviet equipment just rotted away in the Middle East and Africa.
Greece might not have that problem, but those are the first things I would look at before saying “Yes.”

That’s a really good question given their recent economic status.
Provided that we wait for their check to clear.
There is No such thing as a second hand F-35. These planes are what 5 years old? even if they were older their so expensive that any country who sells the plane would take a big financial and technological loss.
“Urgent” is right. If that sleepy fraudster Joe Biden gets to the White House, he will consistently do the wrong thing. So if Greece wants those fighters, get ‘er done now.
I say no. Where were they when KAL 007 was shot down?
They are wanting current inventory aircraft. Hence the “second hand”. They don’t want to wait for production.
I believe that Greece does not have the wherewithal to support and fly the F-35. I understand their need as Turkey has a huge air force and significant home ground defenses that makes it a very hard target for anyone, let alone Greece.
If I were running Greece I would buy Israeli made drones. They are cheaper and very effective. A lot of long-loiter drones would really be a deterrent that Greece could afford.
Of course, Greece may have received under the table support by countries concerned about Turkey’s attempts to create the new califate.
> I say no. <
I normally would, too. But Greece’s enemy Turkey is obviously a rising Islamic power. So I say poke Turkey in the eye every chance you can.

That’s a very interesting suggestion. Perhaps the Greeks are being too ambitious with their F-35 request. But if I were the King of Greece, I’d want something that would help prevent an attack on my cities in the first place.
(I know Greece no longer has a monarchy. But if they ever ask me to run their country, I’d have to be given the title of king.)
With a Biden White House, the Middle East is about to go "HOT".
Greek politicians thirty years ago.....
“Tax money for fighter aircraft? Forget it. That’s what The United States is for. Oppa! Oppa!”

Today.
“The Turks look like they might invade us. They’ll probably kill all our politicians if they do! What could we have done to prevent this? Oppa! Oppa!”
“If I were running Greece I would buy Israeli made drones. They are cheaper and very effective. A lot of long-loiter drones would really be a deterrent that Greece could afford.”
I agree that Greece needs to think about how to do air war “unconventionally” because they don’t have the size & economic power to go toe-to-toe with Turkey. They could, however, use an aerial version of guerilla warfare to deny Turkey a victory. Drone-based tactics would be a good start.
Greece has a surprisingly good air force and, contrary to expectations, now seems to be doing a good job of reforming the country of systemic malpractices.
“what do you think?”
I think it’s pretty ridiculous that American citizens can’t buy these jets but Socialists from any third rate country on Earth can.
Funny thing about that.
Then the answer should be “Where do you want them delivered? And do you need some AMRAAMs to go with that?”
