In today’s upside down justice I don’t blame him for running away.

If it was a legitimate concealed carry holder I would have expected him or her to hang around to verify the perp was not a threat and to try to render aid to the victim.
Shooting a murderer and then disappearing is odd.
The citizen may have been ineligible to have a firearm.

I load my ccw magazines with gloved hands, never touching the ammo. If I ever have to shoot someone my presence afterward is based on the presence of witnesses. No witness and a clear path to leave then I would leave. If there are witnesses then I hang around. Simple choice of self preservation.
