America no longer needs the same security structure that it built up to defend against a war with the Soviet Union. The biggest danger now is China and the US under Trump is pushing for a group of China’s neighbors to develop themselves to handle the issue without the US. Therefore the US is disengaging from the role of global policeman. The reason Congress has bilateral support to keep the US in $hithole$ like Afghanistan (19 years now) is the lobby money from the companies making bombs, bullets, drones, aircraft and the incredibly expensive kits for our soldiers. What, exactly, is America’s strategic interest in Afghanistan? (Take your time. I’ll wait.)
There is a huge interest in the top level of the military in keeping up small wars. It gives them a post military career path into the military industrial complex. I can’t tell you how many totally worthless former colonels I met while in the industry. I hardly ever met the generals who were employed at such a high level that they had offices on the top floors equipped with every amenity, but most had never even visited their office. I’m thinking they already did their service for the company while they were in uniform and now they are getting their pay with a no-show job.
Recently, a “highly regarded” consultant for the Pentagon recommended getting rid of the US Marines. My take. The US Marines have more ships than the UK’s navy, more planes than their air force and more soldiers than their army. If the US isn’t tied down in a half dozen “police actions,” then it’s likely that the public (not Congress) will start asking why we are spending so much on the army and the air force when what we really need is a huge navy. The obvious conclusion, from the public is, get rid of most of the army and trim down the air force, just keep the Marines. (”Uh-oh,” all those companies and politicians who are making money off the wars say.) So, the answer is get ahead of this and eliminate the Marines.
I recently saw a YouTube video from Binkov. It asked, could the US invade China? Well, no. Why on Earth would we do that? If we got in a war, as soon as they were defeated we would go home. Nobody in their right mind would try to do for China what we did for Japan. We would leave them to sort it out.
So, this is where Mattis is coming from.
When PDJT was pulling together his original cabinet, he acted like a 14-year-old in puppy love when it came to Mattis. He was enthralled with the twink. I was a bit embarrassed for him.

I wish he had better connections to retired field grade military officers like Pompeo. The best leaders I had in the army retired at 05 (LTC) and 06 (COL) and maybe 07 (BG)

because they weren’t politicians—you dont become a 3 star general unless you get into politics. just how it is.
I served under some damn fine officers who would rather do the right thing or say what needed to be said instead of kissing butt to advance.
If Trump would have had access/connections to that corps of officers or even very senior/capable NCO’s, then he would have had much better control of things
fact of the matter is that Trump never had full control of this government—there were entire alphabet departments that simply did what they wanted with no repercussions.
