STERLING, Va. - Housing Secretary Ben Carson is crediting unapproved, experimental treatments with saving his life after he became “desperately ill” following his infection with the coronavirus.
There is no medical evidence that the treatments Carson cited worked.
A retired neurosurgeon, Carson said Friday that he believes he’s now “out of the woods.” He disclosed that his wife, Candy, also had COVID-19, the disease the coronavirus causes. Carson tested positive earlier this month.
In a statement posted on Facebook, Carson said he was “extremely sick” but saw “dramatic improvement” after taking a botanical treatment derived from the oleander plant. Carson said he has underlying conditions, which he did not specify, “and after a brief period when I only experienced minor discomfort, the symptoms accelerated and I became desperately ill.”
Carson said Trump was aware of his condition and “cleared me for the monoclonal antibody therapy that he had previously received, which I am convinced saved my life.”
“I do believe I am out of the woods at this point,” said the secretary, who gave credit to Trump, the White House medical team and doctors at the Walter Reed military hospital.
Carson said he took Oleander 4X, but there’s no evidence that the treatment or any other homeopathic medicine works against COVID-19.

Sometimes just life cures you of a disease.
I do think he is the right person for his job.
The man was a brain surgeon {for babies} for 4 decades before he got into politics.
The black community loved him when he was 'authentically black' before they knew he was a conservative.
I thank God and President Trump for his recovery.
Of course the AssPress would know more about what treatments worked than a doctor.
Other than he took it and got well. I'm surprised the article didn't include a statement about no vote fraud.
Being black and stupid when it comes to criticizing a success story of a gentile intelligent man who saves babies and happeneds to be black .......BUT HES CONSERVATIVE.
Prayers for him, Carson is great person.
My cousin has been sick for two weeks with Covid. He got better then turn worse. He was admitted to hospital three days ago and yesterday he was move into ICU.
This virus is weird. My Aunt who is in her late 70s tested positive, but never got real sick. My cousin is 50 with no underlying issues is down and out.
The reporter is a pretentious bitch.
Carson’s one of the really good guys. So glad he’s recovering. Many years ago when I was a kid, we didn’t know that oleanders were poisonous, but I always got whoozy and a bit sick to my stomach when I picked the flowers for a pretty bouquet. Now they’re making medicine out of it!
I’m so glad he recovered quickly. He is such a good man.
It seems like about 99.5% of them recover quickly.
Is this a news article, or an opinion piece?
I heard Dr. Carson speak here in York, PA about 20 years ago. I have been an admirer since. I read his, and I became an admirer of his mother.
Most of us would have become totally disheartened if he had to face the challenges that they overcame.
Glad he got the treatment and glad he’s on the mend
>There is no medical evidence that the treatments Carson cited worked.
There is no evidence the person named in the byline is a journalist or doctor.
Doctor Carson, on the other hand, is a medical doctor and he lived, which is often evidence that the treatment worked.
What he actually wrote, on Facebook:
Thank you everyone for your support and prayers as Candy and I battled COVID-19. I was extremely sick and initially took Oleander 4X with dramatic improvement. However, I have several co-morbidities and after a brief period when I only experienced minor discomfort, the symptoms accelerated and I became desperately ill. President Trump was following my condition and cleared me for the monoclonal antibody therapy that he had previously received, which I am convinced saved my life.
President Trump, the fabulous White House medical team, and the phenomenal doctors at Walter Reed have been paying very close attention to my health and I do believe I am out of the woods at this point. I am hopeful that we can stop playing politics with medicine and instead combine our efforts and goodwill for the good of all people. While I am blessed to have the best medical care in the world (and I am convinced it saved my life), we must prioritize getting comparable treatments and care to everyone as soon as possible.
There are a number of promising treatments that need to be tested, approved, and distributed (sooner rather than later) so that the economy can be re-opened and we can all return to a semblance of normalcy. Also, people should recognize that there are a number of defined steps that legally have to be taken before vaccines are released to the public and trying to cause alarm by saying dangerous shortcuts were taken only serves to stoke fear. Together we will be victorious. God is still in charge.

Dr. Carson is a very good and wise man
So glad Carson is doing better. He is a good man. He and others got focus at Trumps election night party. Another super spreader event. What were they thinking? I think that’s where Meadows, ivanka and Don Jr.Got it. Jr didn’t even catch it when his girlfriend had it.
