Kerrey calls for GOP to retract military ballot accusations (article from Nov 21 2000-note Florida hadn't yet certified)

MIAMI, Florida (CNN) -- Battered by accusations that they tried to disenfranchise military voters, Vice President Al Gore's campaign enlisted a war hero of their own Tuesday to call on Republicans to retract those "unfair and irresponsible" claims.

Nebraska Sen. Bob Kerrey, a former Democratic presidential candidate and Medal of Honor winner, said allies of Texas Gov. George W. Bush were attempting to undercut the legitimacy of a possible Gore victory in Florida's tight presidential recount.

"Many of the things that are being said, if they are believed by the American people as the truth, will cast a pall of illegitimacy over the vice president if he ends up being the person that wins," Kerrey said.

Bush aides and Republican surrogates, including retired Persian Gulf war commander Norman Schwarzkopf, have blasted their Democratic rivals for having more than 1,400 overseas absentee ballots disqualified in Florida counties, many for lack of postmarks. Many of those ballots were presumed to have been from service members supporting Bush.

Republicans have said lawyers for Gore, the Democratic presidential nominee, plotted to disqualify as many military votes as possible based on "technicalities." Democrats had circulated a memorandum detailing what was required for Florida absentee ballots to be counted -- including the signatures of a voter and a witness, a date and a postmark.

Note that absentee ballots required a signature, witness, a date, and postmark.

There is still time, technically, to get the 2020 cases rolling. Florida hasn't been certified at this time (Nov 21) in 2000. Time is growing short, but there is still time.

Isn't Kerry the only sailor in history who put himself in for three Purple Hearts?

They did stop military ballots... in FL. Was there in the recount. They diverted the massive military ballot votes sent in to the APO in Miami. At the Miami United States Post Office. Misdirected them literally at the receiving dock and used postal union thugs to do it.

This is interesting.

By commenting on this, this is proof that the lamestream news blockout is NOT WORKING. People are getting their information from conservative radio and websites.

It is huge that Kerry has addressed this issue. Addressing it gives it more attention.

Everyone knows Trump was cheated, and everyone in the deep state and the lamestream media knows that the dumb-ass Demons were so desperate to beat Trump that they exposed themselves by shutting down the counting in order to recalibrate the machines. They left a trail to follow. The massive enslaught of swamp media calling on Trump to concede has failed. The swamp's gaslighting of Biden as 'president-elect' and 'nothing to see here' isn't working. Sidney Powell is going to bring all of this to light...and the swamp knows this.

Tucker's big walk-back is just the beginning.

“They did stop military ballots... in FL.”

I was listening to the election and as a military retiree, I took great offence to how the military vote in Florida was mishandled.

It is my understanding that the votes were disqualified, and never counted, because they did not go through the prescribed route of using the APO New York. And those votes were never counted even though they arrived on time.

But when you consider that a few thousands of votes were disqualified as a double vote when the tallying machine was misinterpreting the ballot reading a vote where it was creased when folded properly to be put in the box, and those were never looked into, there was a lot of problems down there that weren’t available to the public. Some even now.

It also isn’t just a Florida problem. In the governor’s race in Washington State in 2004, the auditors office didn’t get the overseas ballots into the mail in time for them to be returned. They started arriving less than a week after the election. And even though there were three recounts, and finally the liberal candidate finally winning with “found” ballots not inexistence on election day, the military votes, even though they were there the same as the found ballots, were never counted. They have since, as I understand it, been destroyed after holding for a number of years.

On the average, a minimum of 325K votes from the military are tossed each year questionably by states establishing numerous difficult rules to comply with and not getting the ballots mailed out in time for return.

1,400 overseas absentee ballots disqualified in Florida counties, many for lack of postmarks.

Having been active duty during this time, I remember it well. Postage from Combat Zones is free. All we did was write "free" where we would normally place our stamp. There was no stamp to cancel, and our Postal Clerks didn't postmark them. I still have letters, cards and postcards from that time and none of them are postmarked. Gore, Lieberman and their leftist lawyers did their best to disenfranchise military voters serving in a combat zone. NEVER FORGET.

Yes— they were “disqualified” for lack of a.... POSTMARK!

Total utter BS. Getting angry remembering it. Was much younger then and hopping mad.... NAVY mad, Marine Corps mad!

It also happened at the Orlando MCO airport postal sectional center who took in APO mail off military planes— and redirected them to further delay their acceptance, and ultimately not count them. Just-— well, beyond angry. The utter disregard for military overseas serving men and women— however they had voted. Gdm the demonrats to a special hell.

On a somewhat unrelated note... notice how the news article from that time all still referred to Bush as “Texas Gov. George W. Bush” while Gore was actively contesting the 2000 election, and the electoral college hadn’t met yet.

If the article was slated the way the CURRENT headlines are for Biden, it would have been written like this:

Battered by credible accusations that he tried to disenfranchise military voters, outgoing Vice President Al Gore enlisted a ‘war hero’ of his own Tuesday to try and starve off mounting evidence that he cannot win without suppressing legal ballots cast on election election day.

Nebraska Sen. Bob Kerrey, a Gore supporter, said allies of President-elect George W. Bush were attempting to stop a hypothetical “Gore victory” in Florida’s presidential recount triggered by Gore’s refusal to accept the election results from Tuesday.

“Many of the things that are being said, if they are believed by the American people as the truth, will cast a pall of illegitimacy over the vice president if he ends up being the person that wins,” Kerrey said.

President-Elect Bush and his surrogates, including retired Persian Gulf war commander Norman Schwarzkopf, have blasted their defeated rivals for having more than 1,400 overseas absentee ballots disqualified in Florida counties, many for lack of postmarks. Many of those ballots were presumed to have been from active service members supporting Bush in his successful bid to flip the White House back to the GOP.

Republicans have said lawyers for Gore, the outgoing Vice President, plotted to disqualify as many military votes as possible based on technicalities. Democrats had circulated a memorandum detailing what was required for Florida absentee ballots to be counted — including the signatures of a voter and a witness, a date and a postmark.

That was great. Take a bow. And true.

The other thing I noticed was that just twenty years ago, CNN didn't completely suck. The article was factual, and fairly balanced. It's amazing how far they've descended.

Well social media and the world wide web was in its infancy 20 years ago. But yeah, if they were as in the tank for Bush as they are for Biden now, they would have constantly referred to Bush as "President-Elect Bush" a day after the election. Any time that Al Gore or someone from the Gore campaign contested the numbers in FL showing Bush was ahead, the media would promptly "fact check" Gore's statement, rate it "mostly false" or "deliberately misleading", and AOL software would pop up "updates" constantly with bullet points saying stuff like "Florida elections have a reputation for being safe and secure" and "Hanging chads and punch cards are known to be tamper proof and used in the vast majority of elections across the US" and "Vice President Gore has provided no evidence that FL Gov. Jeb Bush is 'biased' towards the Republican nominee". Reporters would ask RAT politicians constantly "Why has Vice President Gore not conceded yet and accepted the will of the people?" and wonder aloud if Gore will have to "be dragged kicking and screaming from One Observatory Circle when Dick Cheney moves in". Jean Chrétien, John Howard, Tony Blair, and Ehud Barak would have all issued statements in November saying stuff like "We extend well wishes for George W. Bush for winning the U.S. presidential election and look forward to working with him, having shared a warm friendship with him since he was a baseball comissioner. It is refreshing to see the American people want change and a return to normalcy after the shameful Monica Lewinski episode!
