The long wait for a vaccine that could eventually spell the end of the coronavirus pandemic appears to be on the horizon. Last week, Pfizer said its vaccine in a trial has been 90% effective in preventing COVID-19, while Moderna on Monday announced similarly encouraging results. The companies could get emergency federal approval within weeks. Yet it will only be after the drugmakers ship millions of doses around the world that the real time crunch on the vaccination effort begins.
Pfizer's vaccine must be kept at nearly minus 100 degrees Fahrenheit to remain effective. That's about 20 degrees colder than extreme winter temperatures at the South Pole. Early on, experts warned that the U.S. lacked the necessary ultra-cold storage trucks and cargo planes needed to ship hundreds of millions of doses at sub-sub-zero temperatures.

Not for me because I’m not getting it!
Scaremongering, lying Tyrants and gutless underlings!
and I have a Biden-cutout for your basement to keep you inspired!
I’m with you. Pfizer can keep their brew on ice.
I’ll be holding out for the Moderna one.
The Moderna vac will be at doctor's offices or pharmacies or places like that for the next stage, those over 65 with comorbidity.
That’s why the Moderna vaccine will likely get approval first, if only because it’s mostly compatible with the current refrigerated transportation infrastructure!
See BS
Just like flu, give it to the high risk individuals, and stop the lockdowns and masks and let the rest of us go on with our lives.
Dry ice is -109.3F. It’s cheap and widely available, even to plain old consumers. No problem keeping the vaccine at -100F.
In keeping the excellent Howie Carr saying ‘when the phone don’t ring, you’ll know it’s me’ (not sure who said it first), I say: ‘when you’ve done nothing, you’ve already distributed it to me.’
You are likely very right about the split between using Pfizer in the industrial setting and Moderna for the masses. They need to maximize production from both as quickly as possible, and there’s no way Pfizer can realistically be used in other than situations where the equipment needed can be justified. Likely the military will also be early users so the most essential to our country’s protection are vaccinated.
Pfizer only took money for production and not development so it can avoid licensing anyone and retain more profits. Moderna was funded in their development efforts so likely the Government has some rights and may force some licensing to increase production capabilities. Hopefully quality won’t be compromised if they do license out.
Supposed to be using the National Guard to distribute I thought. The vaccine companies have found/ordered totable cold container units to transport. It will be free at pharmacies just like a flu shot.
President Trump tapped the United States’ best logistics guy in the Armed Forces to figure this out months ago; I’m sure he and his team have thought some of this through.
“They just want to keep people scared in the basement for as long as they can.”
Yup! The libs are really pissed Trump pulled this off and will get the credit.
Besides the distribution will work out fine if the Government stays out of the way.
Looks like FDA also approved at home covid test one can buy in the drug store, results in 30 minutes. Really pricey though at 50 bucks a pop.
cBS!!!
Warp speed is ready no matter who is Prezzy:-)
Without a doubt they have this all planned out.
Bet they have truckloads of the proper refrigeration equipment on hand already.
