Nancy Pelosi has been reelected speaker of the House by her caucus for the next session of Congress, marking what will be her fourth term with the gavel. The caucus vote was conducted virtually, but Pelosi was approved with a voice vote.
Pelosi, 80, did not not face any challenge for her post, but she will also need to secure a simple majority — 218 Democratic votes — by the full House of Representatives in January to be sworn in again as speaker.
In 2019, several Democrats voted for someone other than her on the floor, but with a slimmer margin in the majority after the 2020 election, she cannot afford to lose more than a handful of votes.
House Democrats are holding leadership elections as they grapple with unexpected losses and the prospects for a Congress that remains divided. The GOP appears likely to maintain control of the Senate. Plus House Republicans picked up at least eight seats and several races are too close to call.
Other top Democratic leaders — Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., and Majority Whip Jim Clyburn, D-S.C. — who are 80 and 81 — are also running unopposed. House Democratic Caucus Chair Hakeem Jeffries, of New York, did not face any competition for his post as the fifth-ranking leader, and was reelected on Wednesday.
Rep. Cheri Bustos, D-Ill., who ran the House Democrats' campaign arm, said she would not run for another term. Two other Democrats — Rep. Tony Cardenas of California and Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney of New York — are vying for the position that will be decided later this month.
Top leaders and political analysts forecasted that Democrats would expand their majority — potentially picking up as many as 15 seats — but the party's disappointment instead

hopefully there will be enough smart Rats to vote no on her as the speaker in January. Otherwise we might have a VP Pelosi when Joe Biden gets the Pillow talk like Judge Scalia.....
Kama-la-la already asked Joe if he preferred Goose down or memory foam pillows in the sleeping quarters.
I was so hoping AOC would be speaker. Her or Omar.
She may have been re-elected as leader of the socialist dems, and presumed she will be re-elected as speaker, but I doubt she could've been officially re-elected until the next congress is convened. A LOT could happen between now and then.
NPR is always anxious to coronate dems.
AOC is too obvious a commie thug... Nancy’s a front - gives the look of America still being a free country.
Put AOC and friends in there where citizens can see them and the commie ugliness becomes obvious. Commies always use front organizations and useful idiots to disguise who they really are...
I thought such a vote could only take place AFTER all House members—new & old—are sworn in in Jan, 2021.
Saggy SENILE HAG Pelosi is a perfect choice LMAO!!
Every day The B*tch Queen says something stupid, silly, arrogant, childish, contradictory, FALSE, you name it.
She’s WAY past her sell date, similar to Plugs.
Only 5 flips needed:
Dem Rep
220 - 213
219 - 214
218 - 215
217 - 216
216 - 217 !!!
Perhaps the Reps could get some Dems to convert like Jeff van Drew did.
These are votes within each party’s caucus, not a House floor vote.
RE: I thought such a vote could only take place AFTER all House members—new & old—are sworn in in Jan, 2021.
The Democrats are Pre-empting what they expect to happen in January by ASSUMING they will still keep control of the House despite their losses.
This is a nomination, not the actual selection.
The headline in the article is confusing and misleading.

FAKE NEWS - Pelosi hasn’t been reelected Speaker because the next session of Congress does not begin until next year!
The nearly 60 new members of Congress are not even there yet.
Pelosi elected just as Biden elected? The vote for House Speaker occurs in January, so no, not elected as yet.
Doesn’t the vote for speaker happen in January 2021.
The 3rd I believe.
5.56mm
Why does this House elect the speaker for the next House when there could be a whole new set of people coming in?
Top. Not just run-of-the mill, but "top" analysts. The same sort of "top" analysis's who make pronouncements daily about so many things. Thank goodness for our intellectual leaders.
Money, money, money, money
Muuuuney
She’s like RBG in that regard and would like to rule AND vote from her grave.
She certainly has no plans to EVER live under the rules she imposes on others.
That means: If worse comes to worst, and neither candidate gets 270+ EVs, causing this Democrat Party Cabal election-year debacle to drag into 2021, and Congress still can't decide on a President by Inauguration Day (meaning one or more Republican state delegations flip), we could actually end up with a U.S. President Nancy Pelosi ... until Congress would get its act together, do its job, and finally choose a President.
As Sleepy Joe himself would say: "For real. That's no joke. C'mon, man!"
Hard to read her - she has such a good poker face...
Oh, wait...
