Tesla's Supercharger Network in Australia officially costs more than gas fill-up Puts an end to years-long claims that recharging its vehicles offered savings

(ZEROHEDGE) -- Using the Tesla Supercharger network, it is now costlier to recharge your vehicle than it is to gas up at a traditional gas station, according to a new report from Australia-based WhichCar.

The news came as a result of a "recent price increase" to use the Superchargers and - stop us if you've heard this one - "incorrect fuel figures on the Tesla website".

This, of course, puts an end to Tesla's years long claims that recharging its vehicles offered savings versus traditional internal combustion engine vehicles.

$1.38 for premium unleaded??? When you’re doing research, and you come across such a surprising figure, stop and verify!

In Australia, “petrol” costs $1.38/QUART!!!!

I found it priced at about $1.29/quart. Seems bizarre that Australia prices per quart, rather than liter. But actually, that would be just about $1.38/liter.

$1.00 US = $1.37 AU today

1.0 US Gallon = 3.78541 liters.

$1.38 AU/Liter x 3.78541 liters/Gallon x $1.00 US/$1.37 AU=

$3.81 US/Gallon

Texas will be imposing a hefty annual registration fee surcharge on EVs effective next year.

As it should be...

Since around 1985, Massachusetts registered EV free of charge. I worked with a guy who put an F-86 (Saber Jet) starter motor in a VW Bug around that time. It was a common conversion. I actually drove it. It jumped off the line in first gear like a raped ape.

I havenā€™t thought of Doug Henning in decades.

After going to Wikipedia, I now realize why. He died two decades ago.

I like to follow various stock analysts and podcasts.

To a one - they all seem to be predicting that oil is ā€œdead.ā€ Not now, but by 2040. All cars and trucks will be electric, no one will need gasoline or diesel. Energy will all be ā€œgreenā€ and renewable - and the key is - printed government money and debt will be behind it.

But reality seems to say something different.

Hmmm. Gonna need a LOT of evs. Saw an ad from ford the other day featuring the new electric mustang. And it sounded like they’re jumping the shark and moving in that direction for all their stuff.

$0.52 AU is $0.38 US. Residential rates in the U.S. average around $0.13/kWh. The price of electricity in Australia is about $0.25 US ($0.338 AU) kWh, so Tesla is putting on a large mark-up, over probably to cover the cost of the stations.

For some reason him saying, “anything’s possible in the world of magic” got burned into my memory during childhood.

I really don’t see the advantage of paying more than twice as much for a car with a 300 mile range. The idea of long haul trucks going electric is ridiculous.

But, hey, the Soviet Union was a real thing for seventy years, so the depths of government enforced stupidity are unfathomable.

The US is, AFAIK, the only country that sells anything by the gallon.

To convert the cost/liter to the cost/gallon multiply the cost/liter by 3.79.
At 1.38/liter that would be approximately $5.22/gallon. Definitely not cheap.

Yep about 10 grand here to replace the battery pack. Now add up the recycling costs and pollution from that.

But on the bright side if the batteries catch fire you can use the heat to cook your tofu burgers.

Well, the ignorant in NevaDUH just gave final approval to constitutionally mandate renewables to 50% by 2030 and all renewable by 2050. Guess nobody noticed the Billion dollar solar plant outside of Tonopah that was obsolete before it was finished and never came on line. Wonder how much it’s gonna cost to takedown. Don’t know if can be modified to work or not.

And the electricity can’t even beat the $5.22 per gallon price, ouch.
