I think much of Africa has less contact with China, the origin of the virus, and as a continent has fewer people per square mile than Asia, Europe, or North America. So social distancing is easier and there are fewer opportunities for infection in the first place.

but northwest Africa, (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Mauritania, among others) have extensive contact with southern reaches of Europe (Spain, France, and Italy...) and supposedly it is the European version of this virus that’s laying everybody low...
