Even if those filling out the death certificates weren’t particularly responsible, ethical people, most people understand how to act in their own self-interest. And risking the loss of one’s career (including throwing away 7-12 years of medical school and higher education leading up to that career), medical license, and risking prison time for fraud and medical malpractice is not in one’s self-interest.
If hospital bosses were coming to doctors and ordering them to commit fraud, we’d be hearing about THAT, and hospital administrators would be going to prison. It’s not happening, because nobody’s stupid enough to risk the consequences for a few thousand bucks.
I don’t cover for those who are ruining families and businesses over hysteria; I condemn them. I condemn their botched responses that waste time, waste taxpayer dollars, provide little to no effect in protecting people from the coronavirus, destroy the economy, thrust families into poverty, and even directly lead to unnecessary deaths. I call for the indictment of Governor Cuomo and others whose policies forced nursing homes to accept known-infected patients. I want them tried for tens of thousands of cases of negligent homicide.
The point is not to cover for these people. The point is to stop being distracted by nonsense like whether this one death or that one death was properly classified and start bringing an intense direct focus on how the actions and inaction of Governor Cuomo, Governor Newsom, and others directly resulted in the unnecessary deaths of tens of thousands of vulnerable people. We should be marching in the streets to bring those people up on charges; not quibbling over the precise number of the body county.
Suffice it to say: the body count is high and didn’t need to be that high, and if we don’t call for justice in a large, unified voice, the governors and their media pals will happily sweep the whole thing under the rug. So pick a side: sit here and bicker about whether it’s 251,000 or 253,000 or 248,000? Or go out and get these bastards indicted and tried for their crimes?

The number of cases is well below the percentage we’re told we need for herd immunity, yet we’re seeing signs of herd immunity. This supports the theory that there is a certain amount of immunity pre-existing in the population, probably because of exposure to other coronaviruses.
Innate immunity will ward off most low level exposures for most people.
As for the rest...
At least around my region (mid-south, USA) outside of health care pro's and other people likely to be exposed to COVID-19 on a recurring basis, most tests are symptom driven. Local health departments have been offering free COVID-19 testing, for example, now with droves of requests, but, you have to have symptoms to qualify. My wife and daughter had symptoms, and I was of course then also likely to be infected by whatever they already displayed symptoms of, so we all went and got tested. (This was B4 the Health Depts. started offering regular free testing.) Our symptoms were noted, temperatures taken, meds taken already noted, etc. We all tested negative -- results 3 days later -- it was some other virus. (I really got whacked - still have residual chest congestion. But, it is pretty certain we did not have COVID-19).
However, MANY (most?) people infected are asymptomatic and so never become a "case" because they are not tested. Therefor I can go along with some degree of herd immunity from the above (unreported infections, and exposure to similar coronaviruses) in addition to innate. However, judging by the way many of these outbreaks are progressing despite fairly strong mitigation (IL for example), I think that "herd immunity" is rather limited, and viral loads are increasing and overwhelming innate defenses.

Most people succumbing to COVID-19 as the underlying COD had some life left in them, even if their immune systems are weak. No matter if it was days or years, as God fearing people we value that life, no?

Then the question becomes how to do the least damage while protecting life. Unfortunately, too many of our rulers think only in terms of control, and not in terms of least damage.
For example: To really work well, mask usage requires both proper materials and proper mask etiquette. Where are the hourly (or less) PSA’s* on TV and the Web regarding this? Why are Governors not screaming for generally available no-valve N95’s?

oh...? but you spend an inordinate amount of time on here repeating their verbiage about the supposedly unique facets of this disease, about blood clotting, and assorted underlying factors, as if these were something new to the world and not common to everyone who has died from natural causes...and I have no interest whatsoever in quibbling over minor deviations in body count...
the reason these politicians are able to achieve their mastery over us is the unique fear quotient they have generated over something that has in fact been going on since time immemorial, the basic ebb and flow of life and its companion death...on this very thread, you appear to rush to defend the definitive assertion that covid underlies the primary listing of myocardial infarction, when in fact there is no way for anyone to know for sure what causes the heart muscle to ultimately fail, as so many things contribute to it, hypoxia, cardiac ischemia, and in fact, upper respiratory infections...
I don’t contend with you on your facts; in actuality, I don’t contend with you at all, as I acknowledge infection as a factor in heart attack; I just wonder why the tone of much of your posting sounds as if it were supporting documentation for the politico-medical cabal determined to destroy the fabric of our society...that said, perhaps I infer too much...
I agree. Murder, suicide, bankruptcy,domestic abuse, they have all risen because of Covid.
