Conservative social media site Parler, touted by prominent Republicans as a "freer" alternative to Facebook and Twitter, was downloaded nearly 1 million times in the five days after Election Day.
Parler, similar to social networks like Gab and MeWe, advertises itself as a platform for free speech, where users can post "without fear of being 'deplatformed' for your views."
The social media app has emerged as a central hub for Republican officials, conservative pundits, and Trump supporters protesting election results.
Downloads have surged just as Twitter and Facebook have tried to crack down on election misinformation.
Facebook, for example, has removed groups promoting the "Stop the Steal" campaign, which makes baseless allegations of voter fraud.
Now, the #StoptheSteal hashtag has more than 15,000 "parleys," or mentions, on Parler.
In the US, Parler was downloaded 980,000 times on the Google Play Store and iOS App Store in total between November 3 and November 8, according to data from SensorTower.
Craig Chapple, Sensor Tower's mobile insights strategist, told Business Insider that more than half of those downloads 636,000 happened on November 8 alone, the day after several major outlets called the election in favor of President-elect Joe Biden.
This figure is more than five times its previous best-ever day, when Parler had 119,000 installs on June 26, he added.
Chapple said Parler has hit around 3.6 million downloads in the US to date.
On November 8, Parler took the number one spot on the top free iPhone apps on the US App Store its highest rank ever rising 1,022 places since November 2, Sensor Tower data shows.
The following day, it ranked number one on Google Play for the first time ever. For comparison, it was at number 486 for downloads on November 2.

I know that guy Bongino, is that his name?..he owns a piece of it now.
But a few months back the CEO said something to the effect that he wants dems to feel welcome too. That free speech is welcome to everybody.
Then he saw where the money was and now it’s called a ‘conservative” site :)
Smart business move.
I hope it works out
Parler can have my throwaway web-based email address, but they won’t get my mobile #.
I posted my Parler and MeWe links to my FB but they are invisible everyone else. Zuck aint liking us very much lately.
Tucker just joined a few minutes ago
Unless you are a registered user of Parler you can’t see any messages that anyone posts.
Not really good as a public communications tool.
They do need to change that.
Do we have to give them a phone #?
Agreed. I’m guessing they change that at some point. Probably just trying to hit critical mass right now.
I’m a member of Parlor.com, and I’ve also recently started to get into Gab.com. They are indeed uncensored. Both have been a little quirky since selection day, but I’ll give them grace because it’s early days for them.
Yeah - I dont want to give my number either
If conservatives all go to Parler, they will just be talking to themselves, with no impact on the greater world? Won’t that just give the left what they want, total erasure of dissenting voices from public life?
“Do we have to give them a phone #?”
So everyone has said. That’s why I won’t go there.
Segregation is the “in” thing these days.
I really do not care to interact with the chicoms and loonies from the left.
As far as I’m concerned, if they want your personal business, eventually they will violate your privacy. People have a right to their privacy. It indicates a future willingness to violate other rights as well.
I never signed up at twitter or at facescam. I appreciated reading at twitter from time to time such as when a link is posted here regarding a particular article. Facescam gave me the creeps from the beginning so I try and keep their addresses blocked in my browser.
Its to cut down on bot accounts that poison Twitter. Sign up for a Google Voice number and use that. We have to start getting better at this at FR.
What about a burner phone?
“Do we have to give them a phone #?”
It seems so. I tried to give them a free Google Voice number I have but it got rejected.
“Sign up for a Google Voice number and use that. “
Have you been able to use a GV number, I tried and it was rejected.
Thanks.
And I can sign up for that with a throw-away account behind a VPN?
