A significant round of layoffs forecast last month at WarnerMedia is getting under way today. CEO Jason Kilar emailed staffers this morning, acknowledging the process is “painful” but also calling it a “critical” step in the AT&T division’s evolution. (See his full memo below.)
The entertainment outfit has seen multiple staff reductions since the acquisition of Time Warner closed in 2018. Historically, its three main units — HBO, Warner Bros and Turner — operated as mostly autonomous groups. Now, synergy is the mission, with teams being blended for the first time in decades and a lot of positions eliminated in the process. AT&T is laboring to reduce its $151 billion debt load.

I really hate to say this, but we’ve been in the eye of a massive economic storm for several months and we’re just starting to come out of it.
You can’t drasically shrink the economy and expect everything to just be “fine”. But the effects don’t happen overnight. When people are not earning, spending, buildin, consuming, money is not flowing. And states and municipalities are not getting their tax dollars. Businesses and governments are going to be hurting VERY bad, very soon. 2021 is going to be one for the history books.
Well they better prepare for more. They think they can discount half the country. They don’t think our viewership and disposable income for sports and entertainment don’t matter, well then they can suck it up. They could all crash and burn as their idiot governors and mayors keep them on lockdown.
This makes me very happy. Maybe those effected could make me even happier by drinking a bottle of Roundup.
