WASHINGTON - U.S. employers added 638,000 jobs in October, a solid pace though far fewer than needed to regain most of the jobs lost to the pandemic recession just as new viral cases are setting record highs.
The gain suggested that a tentative economic recovery is still intact even as it faces a surging viral outbreak. October’s gain was slightly below the 672,000 jobs added in September and the 1.5 million in August.
But last month’s gain was stronger than it appears: It was held down by the loss of about 150,000 temporary Census jobs. Excluding governments, private employers added a healthy 906,000 jobs. Job growth was particularly strong in construction, retail, and a category that includes restaurants and hotels.
The report Friday from the Labor Department said the unemployment rate fell to 6.9% from 7.9% in September. Still, the nation now has 10.1 million fewer jobs than it did before the pandemic intensified in March.

Don’t worry if Biden wins, he will get those numbers up high again where they belong.
The ironic thing is that, by the time that Biden takes office (if he takes office), the number of jobs lost because of the virus will have been mostly recovered, and the unemployment rate will be down close to what it was before the pandemic, and the stock markets will have recovered all of their losses.....
AND....
we’ll have vaccines available to fight Covid-19.
IOW, all the reasons that Biden was elected to tackle, will have all been resolved, meaning that, his reasons for winning will all be null-and-void.
Black unrest and racism? Gone. Democrats won’t be talking about that issue anymore.
Poverty? Obamacare? Non-issues.
The only things that might occur during the next 4 years is cutting fracking and raising taxes. But, they’ll be blamed on Trump for having approved lower taxes and fracking.
Biden and son scandals? Gone.
The investigations into the Trump/Russia/dossier scams? Gone.
Essentially, Biden can go back into his bunker and hardly be heard from again.
WOW! Biden fixed the economy a lot quicken than I anticipated. It took him only 2 days!
