SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Democrats spent $50 million trying to win control of state legislatures in 2020, but the effort mostly failed, cementing regional power in their more conservative Republican opponents over such issues as abortion, education and criminal justice.
The losses also mean that in most of the 29 states with Republican-controlled legislatures, Democrats will not have a say in how Congressional districts are drawn when the once-a-decade process kicks off in 2021. That will make it more difficult for voters in more liberal areas of those states to elect their partys candidates to both the House of Representatives and statehouses for another 10 years.
There needs to be a reckoning for Democrats, because we are losing these down-ballot races, said a Texas Democratic strategist who requested anonymity in order to speak frankly.
The Democrats stagnation at the state level came despite massive turnout that flipped at least two states choices for president from Republican Donald Trump to Democrat Joe Biden, as vote-counting continued in several states before a presidential winner could be declared.
In Texas, party officials plan a post-mortem to determine what went wrong, said the strategist, who is familiar with the thinking of party leaders.
The Biden brand didnt help us down-ballot, he said.
Biden lost to Trump in Texas, and the legislature stayed firmly in Republican hands despite years of demographic change benefitting Democrats.

How the F does Trump lose?
It’s like some kind of twilight zone episode. This is too surreal to be happening. But it is.
Dems are the ones who gerrymandered.
Now it comes back to bite them and they don’t like it.
Tough luck.
Because they’re cheating was solely focused on sticking it to Orange Man. TDS.
Seems democrats think Illinois’ 4th and 5th districts are normal shapes. I think gerrymander is a very subjective term. It refers to someone else’s district.
Dear Pelosi failed, find a volcano that needs a sacrifice.
Ballot harvesting should be illegal.
Probably too late to make it illegal, now.
Keith Ellison/Ilhan Omar’s district is like 12 miles across and had early voting, yet almost 50% of the ballots have been/still are mailed-in, absentee ballots for the last 10 years (even pre OMG we are all going to die!!!!! pandemic)
Why? Are they all in Syria fighting for ISIS?
AZ voters voted to use a Congressional Committee to draw up the Congressional Districts. 2 R, 2 D and 1 I. Well, the Independent was really a Dem.The three Dems met in secret, drew up a map that favored them, and then voted on it as the 3 created a majority. Gov Brewer sued as everything they did was ILLEGAL. An Obama judge threw out the lawsuit.
See how it works? Criminal activity can be ignored when you have the judiciary calling the shots.
The AZ legislators passed a Law saying only a relative could turn in a vote for someone else (this was to thwart ballot harvesting, which is still illegal in AZ but flipped the election on 2018. Nothing was done to the illegal ballot harvesters.) And Obama judge put a stay on that Law.
Again, see how it works? We have been undermined by people who should be in jail, but walk free.
It’s because they’re corrupt, America hating, evil POS.
“Because theyre cheating was solely focused on sticking it to Orange Man. TDS.”
Yep - they had no ground game, no offices or infrastructure, no transportation, rallies. They put all their effort into mail-in vote fraud and pulled it off.
Now they have to pay for it LOL
Pffff do they ever pay?
Here is a strange shape not too far from me.
Minimum perimeter almost a circle!
Like a crop circle drawn by aliens, only different.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illinois%27s_4th_congressional_district
That is just ridiculous and the fact that someone took it seriously enough to agree to it, is proof of election fixing.
IMO, put a pin in the map and draw a circle around it, and then fill in the edges as needed according to geography or neighborhoods.
That way the shapes would be roughly the same shape everywhere, and let the chips fall where they may.
There are more than a few district Auto Draw programs out there.
Math heads find it relaxing to play with.
“put a pin in the map and draw a circle around it, and then fill in the edges as needed “
No need for any humans to play with it.
A Political Redistricting Tool for the Rest of Us - Redistricting with SweepCircles (Third down)
To improve the compactness of the regions in equal population partitions, we start with the most compact geometric shape-the circle. In this scheme, now considering Washington state with its current 10 congressional districts, we start with a manually placed set of 10 points within the state that will serve as the centers of 10 sweepcircles expanding at the same rate as in this figure.

Auto-Redistrict uses a genetic algorithm to design districts that meet multiple criteria, namely:
Geometry
Equal population
Contiguous
Compact
Minimal county / municipality splits
Equality
Competitive
Proportional
Minimal partisan gerrymandering (maximal “partisan symmetry”)
Minimal racial gerrymandering (maximal voting power equality)
So essentially the goal of the software is to eliminate gerrymandering by fully automating the redistricting process. It replaces the manual drawing process with automated search and analysis.
Being easily amused, this is fun stuff!
There are sites that run simulations! FUN, FUN, FUN!
I used to enjoy watching fractals develop on an old XP.
As the programs and the hardware improve so does the drawing speed. Not as much fun when it draws them in a blink.
This is what convinces me the most on the voter fraud. 100,000’s of votes just had the presidency filled in and all the down votes were ignored. People don’t vote that way, at least not that many.
If you do it, it’s redistricting in the interest of proportional representation. If the other guy does it, it’s gerrymandering.
Redistricting is why state governorships are so important in national elections, because each state’s governor has the final say on redistricting legislation. Red State governors are a key reason why the demoncrats don’t have a majority in the US House.
40% of Oregonians voted for Trump. But due to gerrymandering, the Dems have a supermajority in the state legislature.
