Can Kamala Harris and the Democrats really turn Texas blue? (hahahaha...no)

FORT WORTH — It seemed unthinkable only months ago.

But here she was, Democratic vice presidential nominee and Bay Area native Kamala Harris, four days before Tuesday’s presidential election, stirring up last-minute votes for Joe Biden deep in the heart of Republican Texas.

From a field next to a Baptist church on the eastern edge of Fort Worth, California’s first-term U.S. senator and daughter of an Indian mother and Jamaican father strode onto the stage in her white Converse hightops, a Texas-size Lone Star State flag draped behind her.

“It’s so good to see you, Texas!” she said to a standing ovation from the mostly Black audience socially-distanced on the grass.

With three Texas stops, in Fort Worth, McAllen and Houston, Harris was on a mission Friday to do what neither Barack Obama nor Hillary Clinton could do: help turn this stubbornly red state blue.

It seemed like an audacious ask. No Democrat has been elected to statewide office in Texas since 1994. Jimmy Carter was the last Democratic presidential candidate to take Texas — and that was 44 years ago by the narrowest margin in five decades.

But with tremendous growth and demographic shifts — including scores of Californians moving here — plus the near upset in 2018 of Republican U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz by Democratic darling Beto O’Rourke, Democrats are hoping that 2020 is finally their year to flip the state.

It’s a possibility arising across the Republican South — in Florida, North Carolina, and even Georgia — that underscores a new political calculus in 2020, as younger voters and non-White voters gain numbers and enthusiasm.

so.... last weekend, the Biden Campaign wasted precious time of THE top-shelf surrogate (Harris) in Texas.

This was galactically stoopid. Trump won Texas in 2020 with 52.2% of the vote (ironically, which is his 2016 percentage) vs Biden's 46.3%. Biden's total is 310 basis points more than Hillary - meaning Harris basicslly helped scoop up the 2016 third party vote.

Assuming Trump wins (which seems more likely than not), I expect to see more than a handful of articles asking “What in the Wide World of Sports was the Biden Campaign thinking, sending Kamala Harris to Texas instead of MI, WI, PA, NC, or GA? Texas...really?"

Was it the same nitwit who kept Hillary away from Michigan?”

...help turn this stubbornly red state blue.

Funny, I NEVER heard of a stubborn blue state fighting the evil red forces, have you?

I wouldn’t laugh about this. It was a lot closer than I’d like to see. They will keep pressing in future elections. We’ve got to keep up or they will eventually win Texas.

I'm laughing that they wasted Harris' face time in TX, when she could have "helped" in a battleground state.

As for the 2020 closeness, that happened because, on the surface, Biden took the 2016 3rd party percentages. Trump's percentage is identical between the two elections.

Below the surface, we don't know the puts and takes. And the fact is, Trump's percentage didn't rise.

Complacency isn't a good trait. I totally agree, that people in "forever Red" states should never play defense. The enemies of freedom do not rest. Or, as an old Russian Orthodox saying goes, when God builds a church, the devil pitches a tent across the street.

Look down the ballot. Too many were too close, IMO.

The American Haters are now on the cusp of winning tyrannical rule over our entire country in this election, and if they don’t then they surely will in 2024. It’s inevitable and terrifying, but they’ve now succeeded in capturing all of our Nation’s cultural power bases and indoctrinated the majority of our population.
