There is no conspiracy of silence in India. Confirmed Covid cases are reported as they are in the West, but reporters enthusiastically stress seroprevalence surveys that show the real infection rate to be a multiple of confirmed tests. Example: On Thursday, the Hindustan Times noted in its headline a 40% positive antibody rate from the latest survey of the Srinagar district. Only far down in the story did it indicate this was 25 times the “confirmed” case count.
Why can’t our press do the same? In the U.S., the reality principle is not blacked out only if you look hard enough. A New Jersey survey in August found 14.7% of the population infected, seven times the confirmed cases. A New York survey in late March suggested two million infections; the official count was 76,000. An Orange County, Calif., survey in August found true infections seven times the official case count. A national survey of dialysis patients in July showed a similar ratio. I could go on.
Any single study might be flawed, but the findings are echoed in every country. Maybe our press imagines that our testing is so voluminous and efficient that it now is converging with the underlying infection rate. Wrong. Voluntary testing is inherently biased. Last month, a U.K. study should have put a stake in any delusions on this point. Relying on random, rather than patient-initiated, testing, the report estimated that daily new infections were running about nine times the official rate as of late September.
Nearly half of Covid infections are believed to be asymptomatic. From previous research, 80% of people with flu symptoms and 95% with cold symptoms don’t seek medical help.

So essentially the point is that the virus is very widespread but active, diagnosable cases are relatively few? In other words, it’s not the end of the world?
Japan...? Wonder what is going on...on that island or archipelago chain of islands...all of them looked at individually...lockdown stats...stopping incoming flights...flattening the curve...super spreaders...honest reporting of deaths, cases, morbidity factors, etc.

Interesting homepage karpov. I’ve got the Fischer-Spassky book from long ago. I was always intrigued by the Nimzo-Indian defense, but never understood all of it. Life and other things took my interest away from chess. I had a beautiful chessboard with stone-carved pieces. I think it’s in my basement somewhere.

Honor and shame (personal and as the personal applies to the whole), no matter whether the reasons are universally valid or not, have a bigger role in Japanese culture and thinking than in they do in very many societies.
Feeling like you cannot manage the circumstances of your own life is a point of shame - I’m letting everyone down so I and my problems should no longer be a drag on the rest of you, you who are so much better than I because you are succeeding where I am failing.
There is more and better reporting of facts all over the Conservative media sphere than there is in all of the LameStreamMedia.
Some much of the Conservative reporting is reporting off of well reasoned putting together the facts. The LameStreamMedia’s reporting has a narrative it is trying to tell, and will stick to that narrative skipping over, denying or ignoring facts that go against that narrative.
Our family has always thought we had it in late December through January as it spread amongst us.
Now that I’ve known actually diagnosed people I’m even more convinced we had it, all the symptoms were the same as was the progression. 3 were acutely ill for a short time and used a nebulizer and the other 4 were moderately sick.
