Could Biden Blow This Thing?
National Review Online ^ | October 30, 2020 | Kyle Smith

Posted on 10/31/2020 3:04:12 AM PDT by drop 50 and fire for effect

When it comes to polling, like Jon Snow, I know nothing. I don’t know from statistics. I’m so innumerate that I’d have to phone a friend if you asked me what comes between 10 and 12. When it comes to crunching, I’ll choose potato chips over numbers every time. Plus, when it comes to politics, I’m hopeless: I predicted both that Donald Trump wouldn’t run for president and that Democratic voters would find Joe Biden’s creepy behavior around women disqualifying. Live and learn! Biden is way ahead. And he is certainly going to win. Right?

I’m all about stories, not numbers. True, the plural of anecdotes is not data, so nothing I have to say can possibly have any value whatsoever. When the whiz kids say President Trump has a 13 percent chance to win reelection, listen to them. Whiz kids are never wrong.

But when I look at President Trump, I see a guy who is trying so hard to get the girl — the voter — that he wears her down till she gives in just to shut him up, like Hawaiian-shirted noodge Robert De Niro agonizingly wooing Liza Minnelli in that nightclub at the start of New York, New York. De Niro in that scene goes from weird to alarming to annoying to funny. Just like Trump.

Trump: Now he’s in Florida, now he’s in Pennsylvania. This week he’s been in Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota. He’s out hustling for a single contested electoral vote in Nebraska. He’s hitting Nevada, New Mexico, Madagascar, Peru, and the Moon. (portion omitted for excerpt) I’ve seen golden retriever puppies with less energy. If his movement gets buried on November 3, the gravestone will read: 2020 Campaign of Donald J. Trump — You can’t say I didn’t try.

I found this interesting, National Review is hard core establishment these days, with the notable exceptions of Conrad Black and Victor Davis Hanson. However, this writer seems to echo some of what FReepers are perceiving. There may be movement afoot toward Mr. Trump that most pollsters are unable or unwilling to document. Useful perspective from a publication that is, at best lukewarm about Mr. Trump.

William Buckley must be turning over in his grave at what National Review has become.

How the hell does an illiterate stupid enough to admit he’s illiterate get a job writing?

Bro just because you feel that way about Trump, don’t project it onto other FReepers.

And have the courage to say YOU perceive that...not others.

Because I’ve not read one post that supports your suggestion

I concur in part, Mr. Buckley was a well spoken, well dressed, seemingly establishment conservative revolutionary.

It took guts to challenge the liberal orthodoxy of the 1950’s, particularly in Manhattan. His successors, while not leftists, have a fear of populism that Mr. Buckley did not. Mr. Trump is crass, mercurial, combative, and frustrating. But he never accepts the media premises and challenges orthodoxy. He is innovative, and occasionally stumbles, but never varies from the path upon which he wants to take the country.

Mr. Buckley, I believe, would cheer him loudly, and chastise him occasionally. Focusing on the common cause of stopping the Democrats march to statism. His successors, for the most part, focus on his flaws, and not the opportunity he has created for conservatism.

I don't feel that way, and that is not the point of the article. The author, while not a fan of Mr. Trump, recognizes that Mr. Trump, with his energy both in office, and on the campaign trail, is connecting with a significant portion of the population. Further, pollsters may not be able to account for this.

FReepers LS, Ravi, SpeedyinTexas, and others have done yeomans work in documenting this. This article, for what its worth, is another data point supporting this.

Not in National Review, but there are a multitude of not safe for work websites that would welcome a chance to document her "skills."

I don’t need to go past the title to realize this author has no idea what he is talking about. Will Biden blow this thing? He was never a real candidate in the first place. Just someone hopefully likeable enough to vote for so those suffering from TDS and hate could vote against President Trump. Problem is, many more people like President Trump than this chump realizes.

National Review, I once read every chance I could get, is trash.

Don’t care to even remotely read what they have to say.

There is still time for both candidates to blow this thing. We’ll find out soon.

Laura Ingraham was at the rally in Minnesota yesterday. She said she has never seen enthusiasm like this in any race ever.
25,000 people were blocked from going to the event so they just stood in an adjacent field and cheered him on. The highway was packed.

Meanwhile, the Biden snooze fest in St Paul drew several cars containing almost a dozen Bidenites but also hundreds of Trump supporters.

President Trump will win Minnesota.

All true but in simpler language Trump is the best president in a very, very long while and the reason is that he PRODUCES and people even most people know this though many will never admit it.
