HARRISBURG Potentially thousands of mail ballots requested by Butler County voters appear to be lost, a county official said Wednesday, and the U.S. Postal Service has been asked to immediately investigate what happened to them.
A USPS spokesperson, meanwhile, said the agency is unaware of any significant delays or issues and is in regular contact with the Board of Election as we work to locate and deliver ballots as they are presented to us.
As of Tuesday, Pennsylvania voters are no longer able to apply for an absentee or mail-in ballot.
Nearly 40,000 registered voters in the county requested mail ballots. So far, only 24% of them have been returned to the county, by far the lowest rate among the states 67 counties. The county with the next-lowest return rate, Fayette, has received 50% of requested ballots.
At first we thought that maybe it just was a delay in the postal system due to high volume, Leslie Osche, chair of the Butler County commissioners, told Post-Gazette news partner KDKA-TV. And that could still be the case. But nonetheless, when we realized that, we changed our strategy and now have begun to tell folks that if they havent received a ballot, they still have multiple options.
But this week, county call centers and email addresses set up to handle elections issues were flooded with messages. By Tuesday morning, officials abandoned any hope that the ballots would arrive and launched plans to get new ballots out to voters, Osche said.

Pennsylvania Ping!
Please ping me with articles of interest.
FReepmail me to be added to the list.
Gosh! So coincidental!! Just...lost. And only in battleground states. Golly and Gee Whiz.
These exact scenarios have been posted here on FR for the past year. That too is coincidental!
Butler County is heavily Republican.
But I’m sure this is just a coincidence.
I shall always vote in person. It’s Civics 101
I offered to take my sister to vote, in person, next Tuesday. She told me she voted by mail. (MN)
I hope she forgives me for calling her an idiot.
My mom in a Republican district in a different part of the state hasn’t received her ballot despite following up several times and being assured that it will be sent. I strongly suspect the USPS knows exactly what they’re doing with the ballots in Republican districts.
It’s Common Sense 101!.....................
Once = Accident
Twice = Coincidence
Three times = ENEMY ACTION.......................
I suggest in-person voting..................
Butler may have been Hillary (can’t tell for sure from the map I’m using but Westmoreland was definitely Trump.

The Democrats are telegraphing their post-election plan by mounting legal challenges in PA, WI, and NC. There are 45 electoral votes there, and in each of those states they are getting the courts to allow late ballots up to a week after the election. If Biden gets to 225 electoral votes, expect all three of those states to suddenly have a surge of ballots found by the USPS.
Butler went to Trump with 66% of the vote. Fayette went to Trump with 64% of the vote. The rats are absolutely playing games with the ballots.
This is the SH!T that is gonna start happening. Thousands of CONSERVATIVE VOTES ARE LOST!!!
Would have never suspected that happening.
They never get lost in Filthadelphia!!!
My mom & step-dad (both registered R) in Bucks County have not received theirs either - and a follow-up call said that hers was mailed out over a week ago, his 5 days ago ... they’re going to try to vote in person now, so I am praying the lines aren’t too bad, she is 93 and needs assistance because her eyesight is bad. Both are very upset!
I think those in charge of these post offices should be fired after the election.
In 2016, only 29% of the votes for President went to the DemocRAT. Of course this mass loss of ballots would never occur in heavily DemocRAT areas.
Western PA is Trump Country. ‘Cept morons in Pittsburgh.
