An early sign of a Trump wave on election night is if Massachusetts is not called for Biden 1 second after the polls close.
That was the motel nearest Ft. Devens.

At the entrance to Route 91 in Longmeadow there is a weekly BLM “protest.” Its just a bunch of old rich white trust fund hippies standing at the cross roads holding signs. (This is a high income community.)
This week there was a Trump couple standing there with a sign. They were maybe 20 feet away from the BLM folks. As I sat at the light I paid attention.
Horns were honking as they drove PAST the BLM folks, at the Trump folks. We are generally a “red” town—albeit small in Western MA. But was fun and heartwarming to see.
Certainly not a sign of MA going any different than it always has...but at least we are not alone.
I grew up in northern CT (so I know the area) and have a funny “Longmeadow” story.
Decades ago I was interviewing for a job and the office was in Springfield, MA.
The guy that was interviewing me was to be the boss, and he was a complete jerk—that was obvious within a couple of minutes—so there was no way I would work there.
At one point he recommended that I could live down the street from the office in a high rise in downtown Springfield.
I looked him straight in the eye and said: “If I took this job, I would live in Longmeadow.”

My family (ex-hubby who was stationed at Ft Devens), son and baby daughter lived in North Leominster in 1981. I remember the crisp clean air up that way!
There was a great junkyard in Leominster back in the 1980’s I bought a new used engine for my Scirocco there.
One mASS poll had Biden 70%, Trump 30% earlier this week.
I was an instructor at Devens.. That’s why I was there.
Was he ASA or 10th SF?
I did some contract work on a submarine engine last November in Fitchburg, and we roomed in Leominster at a Hilton.

I was talking to a new neighbor the other day. We grew up in the same neighborhood in Springfield.
I told him I’ve lived here for almost 30 years. My adult kids are “from” Longmeadow. According to the old timers in town, I will NEVER be from here. It takes a couple of generations for the rich folk to be “comfortable” that you are not just transient.
AND, if you have a job that works with regular people, they all give you the raised eyebrow when you mention you live here.
But the schools are fantastic. Crime doesn’t exist. And politicians return your phone calls.
So, its a balancing act.
I hated this town when I was in high school. We always loved coming over here with our football team, full of black kids and PRs.....and we would kick their asses. There was some satisfaction with that that I still hold today. I was secretly cheering against the high school football team every fall when my kids were in school!

Probably ABC Autoparts...I bought a lot of parts and old tires back there in the seventies and eighties...
So different now, though I haven’t been there for years.
Back in the day, I used to go out with a socket wrench and screwdriver, get rid of the wasp nests under the fuel pump or something, pay for it in small cash, and hope it was still functional when I put it on my car.
Now, they don’t let you back there.
I remember that was my first exposure to spending time in a junk yard...cars with their windscreens cracked, and strands of hair hanging down from those cracks on the inside...
