A power company in southern California says its equipment may have sparked a fast-moving wildfire that has forced evacuation orders for around 100,000 people and seriously injured two firefighters.
In a report to the state Public Utilities Commission, Southern California Edison said it was investigating whether its electrical equipment caused the blaze. The brief report said it appeared that a lashing wire that tied a telecommunications line to a support cable may have struck a 12,000-volt conducting line above it, and an investigation was under way.
More than 90,000 people in the fire area were under evacuation orders. A fire in the Yorba Linda area had grown to nearly 4.7 square miles (12.2 square kilometers) and prompted the evacuation of at least 10,000 people, Associated Press reported, citing officials.
About 500 fire personnel were battling the main fire. Two have been injured critically with both second- and third-degree burns across more than 50% of their bodies, according to the Orange County Fire Authority.

Prayers for all affected, especially any Freepers out there.
Living here is like growing up in a wildly dysfunctional household with conflicting messages from each parent: “You MUST stay home! Lockdown to be safe! And we will PUNISH you if defy me!” Then: “You MUST run from your house immediately!!! You’ll burn in your beds if your don’t! And we will PUNISH you if you defy me!” Been forced to evacuate four times over past two years. Done.
I live about five miles from the Silverado fire. Yesterday I was watching law enforcement set up a command post near waiting earthmovers and dump trucks marshaled in a nearby Walmart parking lot as planes flew overhead to drop fire retardant on the burning hillsides. Due to the strength of the Santa Ana winds, the smoke was blown straight out to the Pacific Ocean. Irvine and Newport had smoke as thick as dense fog. Yet over my house there were clear blue skies. It was really weird.
High winds in S. California yesterday may have been part of the cause and likely contributed to the blaze once started.
climate change is hell!
Now it’s causing power companies’ transformers to spark. Nothing like that ever happened before!!!
