Chileans voted overwhelmingly in a landmark referendum on Sunday to replace the constitution, long seen as underpinning the nation's glaring economic and social inequalities.

People hope a new constitution would expand the role of the state in providing a welfare safety net, ensuring basic rights to health, education, water distribution and pensions.

Yeap a constitution filled with positive rights. That is the dream of Progressives in the US

We’ll see if they are still celebrating when they get the socialism they voted for.

Venezuelans aren’t.

Only in the MSM can a constitution establishing a democracy be called a dictation era document. Talk about sleazy spin

“People hope a new constitution would expand the role of the state in providing a welfare safety net, ensuring basic rights to health, education, water distribution and pensions.”

That’s generally what liberals would do here.

It sure is. They should be expanding the principles of freedom instead of expanding the role of the state.

Chileans now yearn for the poverty of socialism under Allende Time to disinvest from this country if one is invested after years of being South America’s first or second most advanced economy brought on by Pinochet.

The beginning of the end for Chile.

That’s what happened in Venezuela. It was all legal, but it started by changing the constitution. Allowing the president consecutive terms etc.

Pinochet transformed them from a third world to a near first world country in a generation. It took Venezuela less than a decade to move the other way.

Horrible decision. Everyone wants to be taken care of. Fine. They are about to get a solution that will spread the suck out equally. And everyone is going to pay for it.

I thought their private retirement accounts was something republicans were looking at to replace Social Security. Even DoD was looking at that model.

An old saying I recently made up: Socialism is like a three-layered drink. And you must drink it all. The top layer is sweet. The middle layer is sour. And the bottom layer is poisonous.

The Chileans will soon be drinking from that top layer. Smiles all around! But they should first talk to some Venezuelans. Those folks are now drinking from the bottom layer.
