'Worship protest' expected to draw thousands to National Mall

Thousands of people are expected to gather outside on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., on Sunday evening to participate in a worship event and to protest COVID-19 restrictions.

The event, part of California-based Christian singer Sean Feucht's "Let Us Worship" tour, is expected to draw up to 15,000 people, according to a permit issued this week.

The National Park Service granted the permit for the event, which will take place on federal property, though participants will reportedly not be required to wear face masks.

"For all permit applications, we discuss a COVID-19 mitigation plan with the event organizers, but that plan is not a requirement for or condition of the permit," a Park Service official told CBS affiliate WUSA.

"While the National Park Service strongly encourages social distancing, the use of face coverings and other measures to prevent the spread of infectious diseases, we will not require nor enforce their use."

Some have raised concerns about holding a large gathering – even outside – without widespread mask use.

"It's concerning," Glenn Wortmann, chief of infectious diseases at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, told NBC affiliate WRC-TV.

It’s OK for BLM/Antifa though.

I'm not in the area.

Too bad this was announced almost at the last minute.

I wish I could! But I didn’t know anything about the event until now. I live in Florida so I don’t have time to organize getting there. But this is what we’ve got to do. Christians and Jews have got to stand up and tell the tyrants to back off.

Btw, Muslims are allowed to do whatever they want. Even in NYC, where DeBlasio is busy shutting diwn churches, including the Catholic Church, (which filed suit and lost) and of course all Orthodox Jewish celebrations.

This has been in the works for weeks but, true to form, the MSM will not mention it. This group has appeared in 45 cities and not one of them has displayed an upswing in COVID-19 infections attributable to these gatherings. (If there were, the MSM would be on it like flies on dog poop). There has been no instances of property damage or personal injury associated with these people.

"...true to form, the MSM will not mention it."

Just as they give almost no coverage of March for Life (pro-life, Christians, many youths)

In 1987, it is estimated that 10,000 participated.

In 1995, which is the last year that the National Park Service made an official estimate of attendance, 45,000 attended.

Between 2003 and 2012 the marches drew crowds estimated in the hundreds of thousands. According to organizers, the 2011 event was attended by 400,000 In 2013, advocates estimated the march drew 650,000.
