PHILADELPHIA - Here in the birthplace of American democracy, election officials are scrambling to prepare for a presidential vote they fear could plunge the nation into a historic political crisis.
Philadelphias Board of Elections plans to move its counting operations to a 125,000-square foot space in the citys convention center. Dozens of staffers, feeding expensive new machines to open envelopes and process mail-in ballots, will spend days tallying hundreds of thousands of votes - under intense scrutiny from partisan observers. The workers likely will discard thousands of ballots that are not properly completed or do not arrive in a special secrecy envelope. Outside, police officers redeployed from their neighborhood districts will conduct round-the-clock patrols to guard against violence among protesters, a police source told Reuters.
President Donald Trump last month called on supporters to monitor the citys election apparatus because bad things happen in Philadelphia - one of his many unsubstantiated claims that Democrats are engineering a massive voter fraud.
Such comments prompted Philadelphias District Attorney Larry Krasner, a Democrat, to study the laws governing militias, in case gun-toting extremists show up at the polls to intimidate voters. If that happens, Krasner warned: Weve got a jail cell for you.
In Pennsylvania and across America, retailers are reinforcing glass, hiring guards or retaining on-call teams that barricade and board up buildings. Citizens of all political stripes are snapping up guns and ammunition in record numbers.
These preparations underscore the fragile state of the election system in a nation long known as the global standard-bearer for democracy.
Trump is the first U.S. president to make attacking the integrity of the nations elections a central campaign theme. Those attacks - along with sudden shifts in state voting rules to deal with the coronavirus pandemic - have ignited a partisan ground war.

Because the PA Supreme Court has, was and is acting like its own legislature enacting new election law.
IMHO, if President Trump wins Minnesota he does not need Pennsylvania.
Is this another one the SCOTUS can look at if it’s brought to them and they accept it?
terrible legal language i know :)
it’s not my strong point
Laying the narrative for the steal.
Governor Wolfe is the best example of why Pennsylvanians need to vote for Trump.
Well....that may have been a risk before Biden lost the entire PA Oil vote last night....
Yeah, thanks, fellow Pennsylvanians, for sleeping through that off-year judicial election. I think turnout was like 18%.
The way I see this playing out is ACB getting confirmed on Monday and the Trump campaign refiling an emergency petition.
She’ll cast the 5th. vote to restore vote counting sanity, which will assure mass rioting on Nov. 4.
Well, that is a good thing. If you can't fill out a ballot correctly then maybe you're not smart enough to vote. Plus Philadelphia votes 89% Democratic. Feel free to throw out your own votes.
Given the history of multiple precincts in Philly reporting up to 125% of their registered voters casting ballots, I would agree that bad things happen in Philadelphia.
Anyone else read the third screedwriter’s name (Brad Heath) as “Bad Breath”?
Obama was just campaigning there. I wonder if that’s just a coincidence.
The stage is intentionally being set that the public should understand that there will be confusion. This “confusion” will deliberately be sown by Democrats if the trend is for Trump. Democrats will then repeat the whole Florida 2000 fiasco.
Additionally, I am seeing independent Democrat ads telling people in advance not to expect the results until all the votes are counted. Democrats are definitle setting the stage for election theft.
This is not going to be close enough for the Democratic voting “games” to matter—I think Trump is looking at a 5-6 point win in the state—too much for the cheaters to overcome.
I expect the voter turnout in Philly will be over 100% or one of the highest turnouts in the country..
after all....PHILADELPHIA - the birthplace of American democracy.........../s
MY mother is in a nursing home in Pa. She called yesterday and proudly announced that they are “helping” her vote this year. She is a democrat anyway, but I smell a rat.
I hope they have a lot of partisans. A ballot can be spoiled by adding another mark on a candidate.
Nancy has it all planned
Of course these are the same people who put Democrat Harris Wofford in as senator over Tom Ridge.
In April 2016, Wofford announced that he would marry interior designer Matthew Charlton, a man 50 years his junior and his companion since 2001. That month, he published an opinion piece in The New York Times entitled “Finding Love Again, This Time With a Man”. Wofford and Charlton married that year.
