The Republican-led Senate Judiciary Committee has approved Judge Amy Coney Barretts nomination to the Supreme Court, sending the matter to the full Senate for consideration.
Democrats on the committee boycotted the vote Thursday, resulting in a 12-0 vote in favor of the nomination.
Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer reiterated his partys objection to President Donald Trump moving ahead with replacing the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the court so close to an election, arguing that such a move should be left to whichever candidate wins the November 3 U.S. presidential election.
He cited the Supreme Court vacancy in 2016, when then-President Barack Obama nominated Judge Merrick Garland but Senate Republicans blocked the process while making similar arguments about letting voters decide who should pick the next justice.
When Merrick Garland was nominated, eight months before an election, we have to wait for an election. Now that an election is ongoing, we are rushing through this nomination. It is one of the worst moments the Senate has ever seen, Schumer said.
He called Barretts confirmation proceedings the most rushed, most partisan and least legitimate process in the history of Supreme Court nominations.
Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham said the Democrats boycotting the vote does a disservice to Judge Barrett who deserves a vote, up or down.
With Republicans holding a 53-47 majority in the Senate, Graham expressed optimism about the prospects for Barretts nomination.
Judge Barrett deserves to be on the Supreme Court and she will be confirmed, he said.
The 12 Republicans on the committee have indicated they will back Barrett.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell plans to follow the Judiciary Committees vote with a procedural vote in the full Senate on Sunday that could bring a final vote on Barretts nomination on Monday.
If Barrett is confirmed to the lifetime appointment, the Supreme Court would have a 6-3 conservative majority.
But no brain splatter
OK, I thought that there had to be at least two memebers of the minority on the committee in order to have a quorum. Is that not the case?
Also, once Judge Barrett becomes Justice Barrett, the court will be 5-4, not 6-3. Stop putting slimy Chief Traitor Roberts in the Conservative column.
Maybe there was a motion to suspend the rules?
“OK, I thought that there had to be at least two memebers of the minority on the committee in order to have a quorum. Is that not the case?”
Obviously not.
Those 2 may not vote at all and Romney is on record as a Yes.
Here is what one of ACB’s law professors wrote to Justice Antonin Scalia recommending her for a Supreme Court clerkship:
Theres just consensus: Amy Barrett, is the best student, the smartest and most talented person to ever come through the University of Notre Dame Law School, O. Carter Snead, a professor at Notre Dame Law School, told the Chicago Sun-Times.
She graduated number one in her law school class.
She puts the liberal hacks, appointed as Justices by Democrats, to shame.
Sadly, thanks to Dread Pirate Roberts, SCOTUS ruled PA can accept mail-in ballots up to 3 days after the election thus facilitating DNC/Communist party voter fraud.
So with ACB, it becomes a 5-4 constitutional conservative majority.
Apparently the Senate majority can change the rules, at least most of them, anytime they want. For once Republicans did it in our favor.
“If you wanted to control the process you should have won the Senate, Chuckie. Elections have consequences,”
Of course they will use that same argument to pack the court if they take control of house, senate, and presidency.
“...Democrats on the committee boycotted the vote Thursday, resulting in a 12-0 vote in favor of the nomination...”
American men and women fought, bled and died to institute and maintain our judicial system. Even today, there people all over the world, in countries with NO sort of representation in processes like this...yet these half-wit Liberals choose to mock the whole thing by a ‘boycott’?
They need to grow up
Baloney. Roberts in no conservative and has shown time and time again that he has no qualms about legislating from the bench as he has repeatedly done with ObaMaoCare and ObaMao’s executive orders.
Agree. Plus Gorsuch and Kavanaugh have taken turns voting with Dems on very important cases. I would expect that to continue. Even with ACB there is nothing close to a conservative majority on the SCOTUS and likely never will be.
Roberts isn’t compromised. He’s a progressive-corportist like the POTUS who nominated him. He votes for the Chamber of Commerce and with the liberals on social issues.
A 6-3 majority???
The sham ROBERTS IS NO CONSERVATIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“If Barrett is confirmed to the lifetime appointment, the Supreme Court would have a 6-3 conservative majority.”
More like 5-4.
The Kingsman heads exploding was for you.
The questions were for the room. (It’s not always all about you...)
“Yes, I think that Collins and Murkowski may be no votes.”
I think this is why Pence went to Maine.
I didnt catch what all the large poster images were purposed for in the hearing room. Can somebody pls tell me what those were all about? Thanks.
Dims, GOPE, deep states, MSM, progressives and communists (but I repeat myself) demolished and pushed further into sphincter and splody head INSANITY.
“Sure as hell theyll do it to you if the tables are reversed.”
The Christmas massacre of our healthcare system comes to mind.
