Twitters crackdown on a controversial New York Post story that purported to show new emails from Joe Bidens son, Hunter Biden, about his business dealings while Joe Biden was the vice president in the Obama administration, nearly doubled the storys visibility and triggered the so-called Streisand Effect, amplifying the Posts claims, according to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a high-profile media intelligence firm.
When Twitter banned, and then unbanned, links to a questionably sourced New York Post article about Joe Bidens son Hunter, its stated intention was to prevent people from spreading harmful false material as America heads into the final stretch of the election campaign, MITs Technology Review reported Monday. But thanks to the cycle of misinformationand claims from conservatives that social-media platforms are deliberately censoring their viewsTwitter managed to do the opposite of what it intended.
In fact, Twitters efforts triggered a massive spike in interest in the story. According to Zignal Labs, a media intelligence firm, shares of the Post article nearly doubled after Twitter started suppressing it, MIT noted.

Didnt this happen in one of the Harry Potter books. The Quibbler that had his interview was banned and of course by the end of the day, everyone knew it by heart.
Sometimes I am soooo grateful for Prog Leftist stupidity ...
God is brilliant and merciful. Trump will win a 2nd term.
Are these guys geniuses at Twitter or what?
The Streisand effect is a social phenomenon that occurs when an attempt to hide, remove, or censor information has the unintended consequence of further publicizing that information, often via the Internet. It is named after American entertainer Barbra Streisand, whose attempt to suppress photographs of her residence in Malibu, California, inadvertently drew further attention to it in 2003.
Information wants to be free.
Free the Twitter slaves!
A hallmark of progressives is negative unintended consequences from their choices.
This one is classic. LOL LOL LOL!
The star systems that slipped through Tarkin’s fingers.
This is a little more than a claim, it's the undiluted truth and a public demonstration of it. And the people responsible don't care.
Whats questionable about a laptop hard drive?
I was thinking this might happen.
Something to do
With Nasal Hair,IIRC.
The bulk of Twitters employees are foreign born and have no idea of how much Americans hate censorship.
depends on the status of the thing banned. 1000’s of no status people can be banned and there will be no sound. but there will be a growing public resentment.
but ban a high status source and there are consequences and a loud pushback
I agree. When Twitter and Facebook banned the NY Post article, the ban became the news.
People reacted by going to the NY Post article and emailing it to their friends.
Conservative bloggers jumped on the story and repeated more than they might have otherwise.
Guiliani got more coverage by the media than he otherwise would have.
All in all, it was a win.
And now that Twitter has unbanned the story it gets repeated again and again.
