The Japanese government is planning on releasing millions of gallons of contaminated water into the ocean starting in 2022, according to international news reports.
170 tons of new radioactive wastewater is generated each day [at Fukushima] and is stored in 1,000 specially designed tanks, Forbes reports.
The government would begin to release the contaminated water into the ocean when the tanks being used to store it reach capacity. The final decision about whether or not to implement the plan is expected to be announced by November. The water is being treated to reduce radioactivity,
Where is Grumpy Greta?
Why isn’t she violently opposing this?
“Oh, no-there goes Tokyo-go go godzilla!”
No, they'll just add tons of lead to it.
Well, you know, you live and learn.
Sometimes you die and learn.
Sometimes you live and don’t learn.
Sometimes you die stupid.
If we were not forcing utilities to use 1960’s era technology vs the newer tech for nuclear power this would not be an issue. The basic GE design (like this one) has vulnerabilities that the newer reactors do not.
Just saying and it does not make your point invalid, it just tells the rest of the story for a technology that can be done far safer and more efficient if we would only allow it.
Just saw a story the other day talking about massive dies offs of Ocean life over that way.
I never noticed before...Godzilla has thighs like Hillary’s.
Waiting for Greta to decree that we can’t eat ocean fish anymore.
“Greta Thunberg would go nonlinear.”
What happened to her going ‘nuclear’ ?? too easy !!
Hiroshima and Nagasaki are liveable today.

A banana is radioactive. The question is always “how much?”
Nuclear power remains the safest, cleanest, most reliable form of power production ever devised by mankind. Yes, it is actually safer than wind, solar, and hydro power. And vastly more reliable.
Coal fire power plants produce more radioactive waste and a lot more smog and other problems. “Green” energy power requires the use of very not-green batteries and a lot more materials covering a lot more landscape to produce the amount of power necessary. Anyone not supporting nuclear power doesn’t understand the power industry; nuclear or otherwise. I’ve yet to meet anyone who’s anti-nuclear who has an understanding of how nuclear power plants operate.
Well, nuclear detonation certainly involves nonlinear phenomena.

Hey, that’s not fat! That’s muscle!
There is more than 500 times as much uranium in the oceans already than there is in the ground. There are roughly 4 billion tons of uranium dissolved in the oceans. This release wont even cause a measurable increase in radioactivity... very likely it wont even cause an increase at all much less a measurable one. The reason is that radioactive isotopes decay so the amount in the oceans is going down all the time, and is likely going down much faster than the difference this release would make.
That being said, the vast bulk of the radioactive isotopes that will be released in this case will not be uranium but rather deuterium,
also known as heavy water. There is even more heavy water in the oceans than uranium and it has a much shorter half life, so I would not lose sleep over this release.
Now that would be a good trick.
How long before Godzilla shows up??
What about a pointed stick?
Say what you will but those 4 headed sea bass are pretty tasty.
Are they ill-tempered?
