As the Coronavirus Surges, a New Culprit Emerges: Pandemic Fatigue.
New York Times ^ | October 17, 2020 | Julie Bosman, Sarah Mervosh and Marc Santora

CHICAGO — When the coronavirus began sweeping around the globe this spring, people from Seattle to Rome to London canceled weddings and vacations, cut off visits with grandparents and hunkered down in their homes for what they thought would be a brief but essential period of isolation.

But summer did not extinguish the virus. And with fall has come another dangerous, uncontrolled surge of infections that in parts of the world is the worst of the pandemic so far.

The United States surpassed eight million known cases this past week, and reported more than 70,000 new infections on Friday, the most in a single day since July. Eighteen states added more new coronavirus infections during the seven-day stretch ending on Friday than in any other week of the pandemic.

In Europe, cases are rising and hospitalizations are up. Britain is imposing new restrictions, and France has placed cities on “maximum alert,” ordering many to close all bars, gyms and sports centers. Germany and Italy set records for the most new daily cases. And leaders in the Czech Republic described their health care system as “in danger of collapsing,” as hospitals are overwhelmed and more deaths are occurring than at any time in the pandemic.

The virus has taken different paths through these countries as leaders have tried to tamp down the spread with a range of restrictions. Shared, though, is a public weariness and a growing tendency to risk the dangers of the coronavirus, out of desire or necessity: With no end in sight, many people are flocking to bars, family parties, bowling alleys and sporting events much as they did before the virus hit, and others must return to school or work as communities seek to resuscitate economies.

What surge?
I am not believing these contrived numbers.
It is all fear propaganda and needs to stop.
This fear propaganda is being used to control the public when really blue state governors do not have the power to continue these “mandates.”

“Biden said he would lock down the country if the science dictated doing so”

OK, here are the facts: Strict lockdowns (like in France, what was done here was a joke) do reduce virus circulation to near zero, as long as they are carried out.

When strict lockdowns are relaxed, even a little, explosive transmission follows.

Strict lockdowns harm businesses, harm individuals, and harm children. The cost of strict lockdowns is very high.

In a political system where voting is allowed, strict lockdowns are not feasible for prolonged periods. France could only tolerate theirs for nine weeks. The US never locked down in the European sense.

BOTTOM LINE: Whether or not the cost of prolonged strict lockdowns is proportionate to the harms caused by widespread virus circulation is a political, not a scientific, question.

The virus will continue to spread until herd immunity is achieved, assuming no new useful advancements in vaccines. Elderly and ill need protecting but sooner we get this over with, the better. Go proactive

I’ve been on this protocol since April

https://www.evms.edu/media/evms_public/departments/internal_medicine/EVMS_Critical_Care_COVID-19_Protocol.pdf

Prophylaxis
While there is extremely limited data, the following “cocktail” may have a role in the prevention/ mitigation of COVID-19 disease. This cocktail is inexpensive, safe, and widely available. It should be noted that a recent publication suggests that melatonin my reduce the risk of COVID-19 infection, while many papers suggest that Vitamin D deficiency increases the risk of infection and is associated with a significantly worse outcome.
• Melatonin (slow release): Begin with 0.3mg and increase as tolerated to 2 mg at night
• Vitamin D3 1000-3000 u/day. Note RDA (Recommended Daily Allowance) is 800-1000 u/day. The safe upper-dose daily limit is likely < 4000 u/day. Actually, I take 5000u
• Vitamin C 500 mg BID (twice daily) and Quercetin 250 mg daily Note that prolonged high dose quercetin has very rarely been associated with hypothyroidism. should be used with caution in patients with hypothyroidism and TSH levels should be monitored.
• Zinc 50-75 mg/day (elemental zinc). After 1 month, reduce the dose to 30-50 mg/day.
• Famotidine 20-40 mg/day

I got SCHOOLED harshly when I went to get tested...saying I was a super spreader...that I have COVID and have no symptoms, Zero, Zilch, Nada. I don’t call it a PANDEMIC, I call it an Economic Democratic Shutdown to keep Trump from being elected.

“But summer did not extinguish the virus.”

It certainly did not nor was the lock down intended to extinguish the virus. The original intent of the lock down was to make sure our medical facilities were not overwhelmed and they were not. It then turned politcal and was just to take down Trump.

The original plan was to let the virus burn through society and give us herd immunity and at the same time protect those at risk and insure our hospitals were not overwhelmed. Sweden did this, and did not destroy their economy. It worked in Sweden and will work anyplace. It was a good plan and it would have worked if it was not turned into a political fight for power.

The left does not care how many die so long as it gives them power. They are evil.

” the Virus will spread until....”....fear mongering. If concerned or scared, your advice could be suggested. Deaths are my measurement and deaths dropped way below “ Pandemic” levels in July. I learned “ threat assessment” years ago, had the imbeciles in the CDC and WHO told us the vast majority of DEATHS were elderly and had other health issues from the start, the fear would have never gone rampant. A positive test today means this ( I know firsthand) : positives are up to 50 percent in error, 80 percent of positives have no symptoms, 5 percent will experience symptoms, and 5 percent over the age of 65 MAY require hospitalization. I have carried on with my life unrestricted from day one, and I am glad I did.

“First, it has to be determined if what we’re being told is the truth or not.”

That ALWAYS will be the bugaboo here. As far as we know, NOTHING we’ve been told is true. And we’ll never know.

Your mom sounds a bit like mine. She turned 96 in August, refuses to wear a mask, lives her life, goes places, and does things. She’s healthy She says she’s from “sturdy New England stock”, but when it’s time to go, she’s ready.

I don’t call it a PANDEMIC, I call it an Economic Democratic Shutdown to keep Trump from being elected.

It is a vile, evil thing to wantonly destroy even a single life for political gain, much less cripple the lives of millions cause the deaths of thousands.

If in prior flu seasons people got tested for it and the numbers recorded.....I wonder what those graphs would have looked like. We didn’t do that before. I know around here schools sometimes closed down for a brief time during flu season because so many kids came down with it. We don’t know the numbers.

This is the first time we’ve done this....counting and reporting cases. So.... it seems like a pandemic.

I know someone who got it a week ago. Symptom was loss of smell. Scary shudder shudder. This is not the bubonic covid. I really doubt people got super mild cases of that plague.

My mask protects me; your mask protects you. If they hadn’t gotten everything backasswards from the beginning, all the hysteria would have been moot.

Old people die in greater numbers than young people; sick people die in greater numbers than healthy people. Describing pre-dabetic as “perfectly healthy” is not going to provide them immunity from “novel” infections — particularly when they are already dying in long term care centers and nursing homes.

Those getting infected the most, are not the same set of people dying the most. You can’t average out the disease and hope for any meaningful treatment. You have to directly address the problem — and not just report great success at treating healthy people.

The problem is that most of those dying are already dying in the long term care centers and nursing homes — and those infecting them are the caregivers. That population is not going to gyms to exercise. Those who are exercising, are doing so to build up their immunity to added loads — in whatever form. Obviously heavy breathing in an enclosed setting is very different than performing that same activity in an outdoors setting — which is a normally healthy activity — given that age group.

So when they confuse one thing with every other, and get everything backwards, of course “shit happens.” One wouldn’t expect anything else. That is the problem in understanding life — as well as death, rather than the thinking that it is enough just to live a long life.

Many ladies her age are dying in hospitals and care facilities completely and utterly alone. Families want to be there, folks want to honor the lives of their loved ones.
Instead we are standing around being denied like we have a king. America surrendered without a single bullet, with barely a whimper of resistance.

“But summer did not extinguish the virus.” WTH?

16 Oct: Daily Mail: Truth about the claims scaring us all to death: Soaring infections, teeming hospital wards, and terrifying death rates... but do the numbers justifying crippling new lockdowns REALLY stand up to scrutiny?
By Ross Clark
Claim: ICU beds in Liverpool are already 95 per cent full
Reality: Fewer ICU beds are occupied than last year

Claim: The Covid-19 death rate is actually high
Reality: It really isn’t

Claim: A second spike could cause twice as many deaths
Reality: Far fewer people are dying now

Claim: Infections are running higher now than when Britain went into lockdown in March
Reality: There is an increase in cases — but only because we are testing more ETC
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8845533/Coronavirus-Soaring-infections-death-rates-claims-justify-lockdowns.html

note: when 25,000-plus new POSITIVE TESTS are announced in France for one day recently, that is the equivalent of -

approx. 125,000 new POSITIVE TESTS in the US in one day.

From the 1944 movie Gaslight

Gregory: If I could only get inside that brain of yours and understand what makes you do these crazy, twisted things.

Paula: Gregory, are you trying to tell me I’m insane?

...

NYT: You’re fatigued. The ro is growing, coming for you. You must trust me or you will go insane. Trust me or you will die.

I'm more concerned with the mortality rate, not the infection rate.

The more people infected and surviving, the more herd immunity.
