With cases surging to new highs and hospital capacity running low, North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum teared up describing a state caught in the middle of a covid storm.
To weather it, he said at a news conference last week, people would need to keep their distance, wear masks and avoid gatherings. But the one thing North Dakota did not need were legal limits on reckless behavior.
Its not a job for government, Burgum (R) declared.
The novel coronavirus is hammering Americas heartland this fall, with records shattered daily in states that had escaped the worst of the disease this spring and summer. Case numbers also are rising again in other states where the virus was thought to be under control after months of widespread illness.
Yet even as health authorities in small cities and rural towns plead for help in tamping down deadly outbreaks, many Republican governors are resisting new measures to stop the spread. Some are even loosening rules already on the books.

In less than a month the COVID hysteria will mysteriously evaporate.
“Cases” aren’t rising in red states. And deaths and hospitalizations are declining.

Red State Economies are doing good.
Who has this virus??
I live in Ground Zero, nyc, on staten island.
I know no one nor do I know anyone who knows someone who has or has had this virus.
I have 42 first cousins. 20 aunts and uncles.
No one has it nor do they know anyone who does.
Obviously it’s real because people are getting it.
I just don’t know anyone personally.
Out of many hundreds of people.
In Ground Zero.
Why do you post articles like this?
Washington Post, owned by Anazon, has a conflict of interest in this issue and every article they publish on it should have the disclaimer that shut down benefits the Washington Post financially.
Not to mention, over 99.9% of positives end up either asymptomatic, mild symptoms and recover pretty quickly. Just look at President Trump. There are far more dangerous diseases out there. Coronavirus is like not even close to being something that most people need to worry about, outside of very old folks with very serious pre existing conditions
Count yourself lucky, or blessed, then. We have friends here in GA who have died and who are struggling with long term problems, including a local fire chief who has PT to learn to walk and talk again after being intubated.
I know Id no one personally who has died of the flu, polio, TB, and only one of cancer.
That doesnt make those diseases less real.
The recent increase in cases started as more people wore masks more often in more areas of the country.
I follow Colorado and at first I thought the new cases were fake. Some may be, but there is a real increase, it’s obvious because hospitalizations have more than doubled, and ventilator use has increased. Deaths are up also.
Fair or not, MSM is making it a referendum on President Trump's handling of the Coronavirus. If he loses, Joe Biden will use this as a mandate to lock down the nation.
I’m in Colorado. I know 7 people who have had it, no deaths. 5 are friends, two are in my extended family in Mass. A cousin and her son.
No deaths or hospitalizations, all have recovered.
Boy do you know unlucky people.
wow.
First you have to get it, then you have to be weak enough to succumb to it.
I’m sorry you know so many people that fall into that terrible category of old and/or infirm.
Everyone I know is still relatively young and healthy and we take care of our elderly on staten island.
I wish your friends the best.
ciao
Not according to Clay J in Dallas County. Moved the danger code back up to red. Ahole!!
